About the Role

We are seeking a Program Specialist to revitalise Great Barrier Reef ecosystems on Nywaigi, Bindal, Wulgurukaba and Birriah Country, as well as other Traditional Owners Country, as part of our Reef Aid program.

The position is accountable for providing technical support and overseeing the on-ground delivery of Greening Australia’s projects within Queensland. You will play a crucial part in achieving our goals by coordinating small project teams and partnering with Traditional Owner groups and Indigenous Ranger teams. The role will also support the development of new opportunities in ecological restoration across the Great Barrier Reef catchment.

The position will also be responsible for contractor management, and asset management and reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Key Activities

  • Strategic Collaboration: Engage with management and Traditional Owners to co-design and implement projects. working closely with various stakeholders, including property managers, ranger groups, and community members.
  • Client Relationship Management: Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through consistent delivery and communication, representing Greening Australia at project meetings and public presentations.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue opportunities to develop new business relationships, secure forward contracts, and fee-for-service opportunities, positioning Greening Australia to clients and the broader sector.
  • Project Oversight: Manage major projects from planning to implementation, ensuring they meet target delivery agreements, monitoring progress, taking corrective action when necessary, and ensuring the safe and high-quality delivery of projects.
  • Financial Management: Oversee financial resources and processes, assist in developing budgets for projects, and handle monthly invoicing and financial reporting.
  • Workplace Health and Safety: Uphold health and safety obligations, maintain and implement Greening Australia’s Workplace Health, Safety, and Environment policies, and ensure induction of new employees.

About You

The Essentials:

  • Hold tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills with experience in liaising with diverse clients and partners, including First Nations partners, and stakeholders from agricultural, mining, and infrastructure sectors, local and state government, consultants, and researchers.
  • Have demonstrated experience in co-designing and/or delivering projects with Traditional Owner groups.
  • Have significant experience in implementing large and/or complex restoration/rehabilitation projects, including specialist areas.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing contractors.
  • Show ability to supervise work teams within complex projects.
  • Hold a current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License.
  • Be physically fit and willing to work in remote areas for long days or field work, and occasional extended periods away from home (e.g. 4 – 5 days).
  • Have excellent skills in writing proposals and reports.
  • Understand occupational, health and safety, equity, and diversity principles and practices.

The Nice to Haves:

  • Possess project management experience, including financial tracking and reporting, and scope management.
  • Have experience with regulatory approval processes, with the ability to successfully guide projects through these processes.
  • Show technical understanding in related areas such as Blue Carbon, Wetland Treatment Systems, Gully and Streambank remediation, GIS, Botany, and Soil Science.
  • Demonstrate strong oral communication skills, including the ability to use PowerPoint and give presentations.
