Greenpeace Australia Pacific

GREENPEACE

Get ready to join the fight for a greener, more peaceful world with Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP)! As an independent campaigning organisation, we creatively and peacefully shine a light on the urgent environmental challenges facing our planet. We don't shy away from the tough issues, exposing global environmental problems, and developing solutions for a green and peaceful future. Join us now and be a part of the change we need to see!

THE ROLE

The Senior Investigative Reporter is responsible for planning, coordinating and driving high-impact investigations that advance GPAP’s strategic campaign goals through a combination of branded and white-label media partnerships.

In this role, you will proactively identify, investigate and break news stories that expose environmental wrongdoing, dodgy dealings, and climate crimes, all while collaborating with our global network of issue area experts and investigations specialists.

You’ll dive into financial and business structures, research links between people and organisations, interrogate financial statements to understand results and money flow, and map networks of influence, all while creating compelling narratives that shine a light into the darkness.

You will bring your network of contacts and collaborate with strategic media partners to find the most impactful ways to break each story to create real-world campaign outcomes, driving change at a regulatory, policy, and real-world emissions level.

This is a 12-month, fixed-term contract position that can be undertaken full-time or as 0.8FTE (paid pro rata).

THE TEAM

The primary goal of GPAP is to bring down the might of the fossil fuel order standing in the way of a sustainable future; this team's job is to produce engaging communications and investigations that fulfil this goal. You’ll join a skilled, dedicated and friendly team of four communications professionals, working in a fast-paced dynamic environment. We expose environmental crimes, hold companies and governments to account, promote climate solutions and inspire others to create positive change.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We’re looking for a highly driven and proactive candidate with a background in journalism, reporting or producing investigations - someone with outstanding research and storytelling skills, a good risk appetite and a demonstrated track record in breaking investigative stories.

You’ll also have:

  • An advanced level of knowledge and understanding of the Australian media landscape;
  • At least five (5) years experience in a similar senior role in journalism or broadcast media;
  • A solid understanding of investigative journalism techniques;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Experience working with whistleblowers and other informants;
  • A high level of business and financial literacy;
  • A good level of knowledge and understanding of relevant media laws, e.g. defamation;
  • A personal portfolio of senior contacts within relevant media circles; and
  • Demonstrable history in investigating and breaking news stories in Australia or overseas.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • An incredible opportunity to work on powerful campaigns fighting for climate action, including accelerating Australia’s shift to electrified transport;
  • A role with the most well-known brand in the environmental NGO space, and the strength of the 50 years of Greenpeace behind you;
  • A close-knit and supportive team with a commitment to sustainable workloads;
  • Access to and support from our global investigations network, and the opportunity to connect with our team across the world;
  • A great work-life balance including 35 hour work week, integrity framework and generous leave conditions;
  • Genuine flexible working conditions;
  • A incredible brand new office space that has just opened up in Rosebery;
  • A culture that celebrates inclusivity, belonging and diversity; and
  • An annual health allowance.

Annual full-time salary: $108,395.60 per annum + 10.5% superannuation per annum.
