THE POSITION
We’re looking for a progressive, creative and politically switched on social media content producer to join our communications team.
We’re looking for someone who gets politics but also gets the algorithm. Your day-to-day would involve making videos and memes, explainers, breaking news content, events promotion and adapting all kinds of activities for social media content. You’ll feed into strategy and also evaluate what’s working and what needs to change.
This role will work closely with other social media content producers and the communications team, as well as working directly with MPs and Senators, candidates, staff and volunteers across the country.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, plan and execute engaging video and graphic content across all Australian Greens social media channels, with an emphasis on video for TikTok.
- Brainstorm and pitch content ideas that stay ahead of trends, cultural moments and other opportunities with the digital team, to create timely and authentic content
- Write speaking notes and scripts that adapt political messaging for online audiences
- Manage online communities by engaging with our followers in the DMs and comment sections.
- Flag emerging risks on social media platforms
- Write copy for use in other digital communications such as websites, emails and advertising
- Report on organic content and make recommendations in response to rapidly shifting platform requirements
- Maintain a schedule, support administrative functions such as meeting minutes and report backs and communicate proactively with the team
SELECTION CRITERIA
Required
- Demonstrated expertise in making social media videos. This includes coming up with a concept based on what’s working on Instagram or TikTok, scripting, shooting, editing, captioning, posting and tracking success of the piece.
- Demonstrated graphic design skills in either Canva or Adobe design suite.
- Strong understanding of social media trends - particularly on TikTok. Strong online literacy. Experience engaging with and moderating social media platforms effectively.
- Strong written communication skills and a collaborative, diligent and enthusiastic approach to creative work. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, including meeting deadlines and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Understanding of the Greens universe, including Greens policies, messaging and branding. You are familiar with the context of Federal politics and how to engage audiences in political issues. Commitment to the Australian Greens’ Principles and Charter

- Communications or campaigning experience in an advocacy or political context
- Photography
