About the role..…

Hybrid role: 2 days office based and 3 days WFH.

This dynamic role offers the opportunity to be a driving force for positive change and will see you leading advocacy efforts at a government level, highlighting the pivotal role that GS1 standards and solutions play in advancing sustainable business practices and driving a more circular economy.

Leveraging your network of government and industry contacts, you'll secure support to engage with policymakers, creating opportunities to shape and influence public policy and private sector sustainability strategies. Through your strategic efforts, you will spearhead the initiative to have GS1 Standards recognised as a benchmark for best practice, leading to their integration into policies and regulations and ultimately driving significant advancements in the circular economy.

Examples of key tasks include:

  • Conducting regular consultations with government officials and industry stakeholders, including organising and facilitating workshops, roundtables, and formal dialogues to encourage cooperation and alignment with shared objectives.
  • Collaborating closely with a variety of industry sectors, businesses, and organisations to advance joint initiatives that promote the objectives of the circular economy and sustainable business practices.
  • Formulating and proposing sustainability and circularity policy positions, informed by insights from the industry.
  • Seeking out and actively participating in policy dialogues, public hearings, and advisory panels, consistently representing and advocating for the principles and objectives of GS1.
  • Planning and facilitating educational sessions and conferences tailored for government and industry leaders.
  • Developing and recommending sustainability and circularity policy positions, drawing from industry insights.
  • Providing strategic advice and insights to internal teams based on feedback and input received during consultations, contributing to the development and implementation of effective advocacy strategies.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of sustainability practices, circular economy principles, and relevant government policies to ensure GS1 Australia remains at the forefront of industry developments.

About you…

To excel in this role, an in-depth understanding of circular economy principles, sustainability, supply chain management, and policy advocacy is essential.

Applicants with experience in think tanks, governmental agencies, or advocacy organisations, especially those who have contributed to policy research and development, will be highly regarded.

In addition to the above, you will possess:

  • Proven capability to influence, communicate, and advise at senior management and board levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse policy issues, understand their implications and formulate strategic recommendations.
  • An in-depth understanding of the hierarchy and operations of government structures, governing bodies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with public policy formulation processes and the complexities of decision-making dynamics.
