Key Accountabilities:
- Efficiently manages a workload appropriate for an experienced veterinarian, and as a sole veterinarian on-site
- Independently undertakes abdominal and soft tissue surgeries
- Independently manages surgical complications
- Consultations, accurate diagnoses and treatments of medical conditions in Guide Dog stock is performed.
- Ongoing veterinary health issues with Guide Dog stock is managed
- Accurate advice on veterinary care of working Guide Dogs is provided, when requested
- Liaises and educates widely with staff on veterinary issues
- Performs reproductive veterinary work such as transcervical inseminations, oestrus timing, natural matings and semen collections (or has the willingness to learn and undertake this responsibility)
- Shares the on-call veterinary roster with the Veterinary & Breeding Services Manager, for after hours and on-call veterinary work
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
- Experience as a registered veterinarian undertaking independent surgeries
- Exemplary knowledge and experience in animal health and care, with a strong ability to impart knowledge
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Possess a friendly and professional manner
