Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) works to alleviate poverty and promote self-determination for the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a member of our talented Finance Team, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for the Corporation’s staff and directors. You will use your strong customer service and problem solving skills to liaise with staff and management on payroll-related queries; process allowances and expense claims; and maintain leave and overtime reports.

We have a staff of fewer than 100 whose salaries are processed each fortnight, with director pays processed weekly. Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Processing of travel, accommodation and meal allowances.
  • Assisting the Accountant with monthly PAYG reporting to the ATO.
  • Quarterly superannuation lodgement.
  • Maintaining and keep accurate and complete payroll records for all employees.
  • Completing year-end processes and issuing payment summaries.
  • Quarterly superannuation reconciliation.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Demonstrated payroll experience.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • High-level attention to detail and accuracy.
  • General accounting knowledge
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and prioritise work.
  • Ability to interpret awards and relevant legislation.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of cultural issues as they apply to Aboriginal people.
  • A team player and the ability to work independently.

Previous experience working in a not-for-profit organisation and using NetSuite will be highly regarded.

This position is being offered on a part-time (3 days a week) basis. However, there is the option of full-time employment for a candidate who is also able to bring AP/AR experience.
