About the role
Community development is a combination of education, inspiration, motivation, and organization. As the Community Coordinator, you will empower individuals and groups with the skills needed to drive positive change within their communities. This role requires collaboration with local communities to ensure all initiatives are locally driven and aligned with the Dawasamu objectives.
You will also be responsible for promoting a productive and engaging environment for participants, aligning their strengths and interests with program goals to ensure meaningful contributions. This position entails both administrative and managerial responsibilities to support the Program Manager in organising, planning, and implementing strategies.
Role and responsibilities
Program Support and Planning
- Assist the Program Manager in setting long-term objectives, planning weekly schedules, and delivering project logistics.
- Create research surveys and needs assessment methods that are unbiased and inclusive of all community members.
- Train staff, volunteers, and community partners in research techniques to minimise investigator bias.
- Monitor project progress using IT systems to track community engagement and measure impact.
- Perform ongoing monitoring and evaluation of projects, including data collection and report writing.
- Collect, develop, and analyse data to help set team objectives and targets.
- Develop and implement programs for continuous project improvement.
Participant and Intern Management
- Coordinate arrivals, logistics, and induction of new participants, including delivering presentations.
- Plan, monitor, and deliver the GVI Internship, providing mentoring and training for interns and staff.
- Train participants and interns to facilitate culturally appropriate workshops within village structures.
- Mentor participants on base, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols, respect for cultural practices, and completion of base chores.
Operations and Incident Management
- Ensure all incident reports are completed and forwarded to the Program Manager.
- Manage day-to-day issues in the field, including participant complaints, medical concerns, and natural disasters, escalating to the Programmes Manager when necessary.
- Monitor food levels and coordinate stock replenishment as needed.
- Coordinate social media/blog content by scheduling and posting weekly updates.
- Act as a joint senior manager in the absence of the Program Manager.

- Experience managing participants in remote locations. Handling logistical, cultural, and communication challenges effectively in isolated areas.
- Experience working closely with local communities. Building strong, respectful, and collaborative relationships to ensure program relevance and success.
- Upskilling staff. Providing training, mentorship, and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and program impact.
Requirements
- Proven experience in community work and participant management.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Administrative proficiency, including documentation of program operations and effective communication with team members.
- Leadership skills, with the ability to manage daily project operations independently.
- Multitasking skills to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
