GWAHS is seeking an experienced General Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team in an Aboriginal primary health care clinic located in Mount Druitt.

About the Role

The position provides whole person, comprehensive, coordinated and continued medical care for Aboriginal patients and their families living in the Mount Druitt region. The General Practitioner is required to be appropriately trained and experienced in the discipline of general practice, and assessed as competent for the position in New South Wales.

About GWAHS

Greater Western Aboriginal Health Service (GWAHS) is an entity of Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service. GWAHS provides a culturally appropriate comprehensive primary health care service for the local Aboriginal communities of western Sydney and the Nepean Blue Mountains. GWAHS provides multidisciplinary primary health care services in Mt Druitt and is commencing service provision from a new site in Penrith.

The clinical service model includes general practitioners (GPs), Aboriginal Health Workers, nursing staff, reception and transport staff. The service also offers a number of wraparound services and programs focused on child and maternal health, social and emotional wellbeing and AOD, chronic disease, as well as population health activities.

GWAHS is committed to ensuring that patients have access to and receive high quality, culturally appropriate care and services that meet the needs of local Aboriginal communities.

Essential Criteria

  • Unencumbered Registration through AHPRA as a General Practitioner.
  • Experience and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary primary health care service environment.
  • Previous experience in providing health services to Aboriginal communities.
  • Experience in quality improvement activities and working in a collaborative environment to drive positive change based on health priorities of the local community.
  • Sound knowledge of Medicare Benefits Schedule.
  • Demonstrate a good standard of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, and current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people.
  • Understanding of EEO, H&S, EAPS and Ethical works practices and the ability to implement and model these standards within the workplace.
  • Current Drivers License
