About the role

This exciting and diverse position will report to the Head of Operations First Nations Cultural Practice and Engagement and works collaboratively with other members of the First Nations Wellbeing & Engagement Division.

The Workforce Engagement Advisor is responsible for:

  • Lead the engagement, support and coordination of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network.
  • Provide consultancy on workforce matters to enhance opportunities across the organisation
  • Facilitate internal events, develop resources, and promote initiatives to build cultural awareness and understanding.
  • Ensure culturally safe and inclusive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families accessing headspace services.
  • Provide advice and develop initiatives that enhance workforce policy, recruitment, training, and development for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, in collaboration with the People and Culture team.
  • Coordinate and disseminate internal and external communications, resources and updates related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander initiatives, significant events, and cultural resources.
  • Participate in developing frameworks to promote First Nations Youth Participation and engagement.
  • Enhance the cultural capability of the workforce to create a culturally safe and welcoming workplace.

Who we're looking for

It is an essential operational requirement that this position is occupied by an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person.*

headspace is seeking someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment and development policies, initiatives or programs.
  • Extensive Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the impacts of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people
  • Exceptional leadership, planning and program/project management skills at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Capacity to assess and manage risk, problem solve and negotiate successful outcomes.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member. Experience in developing presentations and facilitating workshops or initiatives that build the cultural understanding and capacity of staff.
  • Demonstrate experience building relationships and strategic partnerships with government, non-government and community partners, utilising exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as autonomously. Willingness and capacity to undertake interstate travel, as required.
