Think Mental Health (TMH) are seeking to fill a current vacancy for a mental health clinician (Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020, Health Professional Level 2.6 or Health Professional Level 3) to work within our clinical team at Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre. This role focuses on provision of comprehensive mental health assessment, diagnosis, case formulation, evidence-based psychological interventions, and recommendations for mental health consumers. The role will include provision of clinical supervision to students and staff, along with being part of the development and delivery of various intervention programs to meet the needs of our consumers.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and skilful team member with experience in the assessment of adult consumers' mental health needs, delivery of evidence based psychological interventions and supervision and mentoring of more junior staff. Experience in group program facilitation, particularly DBT is highly desirable.

ELIGIBILITY / OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The preferred applicant for this role will need to have entitlement to work in Australia and completion of an allied-health degree along with registration with the Australian Health Professional Registration Agency (AHPRA) as a clinical psychologist. They will also be required, prior to commencing, to obtain (or produce evidence of) a Working with Vulnerable Person’s card, in addition to undergoing a police check.

What we do

Think Mental Health (formerly Think Psychology Solutions) is a private organisation founded in 2011 by two local clinical psychologists, Vanessa Hamilton and Jason McCrae. We deliver both a private mental health clinic (Think Clinic) and a range of community sector mental health services, supported by government funding.

Think Mental Health delivers both the territory-wide phone intake service for Head to Health, the Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre (formerly Head to Health and pending Tuggeranong Medicare Mental Health Centre. Medicare Mental Health Centre’s are nation-wide Adult Mental Health service is supported by funding from the Capital Health Network (CHN) through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.

We are looking to expand our Clinical team with a suitably qualified clinical psychologist to work within our Clinical Team. 

Positional Purpose

Think Mental Health (TMH) is the lead agency facilitating the delivery of Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC). Our Clinical Team (CT) is staffed by appropriately qualified and experienced mental health professionals who provide comprehensive mental health assessments, treatment planning and psychological interventions in both individual and group formats. The current clinical team is predominantly psychologists, with a senior Social Worker as Team Lead. We are seeking a more senior clinical psychologist who can bring their experience and skills to the team, including providing support, mentoring and supervision to both student placements and other junior staff. Staff will be provided with training and clinical supervision to perform all tasks, in a supportive team environment. 

The role is a fixed-term contract till 30 June 2026 with probable extension dependent on ongoing Commonwealth funding. 

Positional Responsibilities

Client services: 

  • Provision of comprehensive mental health assessment, including diagnosis, case formulation and treatment planning for mental health consumers and related service providers. 
  • Provision of evidence-based and evidence-informed psychological interventions for individual consumers. 
  • Development and delivery of evidence-based and evidence-informed group interventions. 

Administrative services: 

  • Maintain all documentation as required by the operational guidelines. 
  • Assistance in the development and documentation of various program components. 
  • Data entry as required by the operational guidelines. 
  • Provision of supervision to more junior staff, including student placements.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Professional Registration Agency (AHPRA), with Clinical Psychology endorsement is mandatory.
  • Board Approved Supervision (BAS) status or eligibility for same.
  • Experience in the assessment of adult consumers mental health needs. 
  • Experience in the delivery of evidence based psychological interventions, various modalities preferred. 
  • Positive attitude and genuine interest in mental health care. 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in DBT, individual or skills group, or interest in developing skills in same.
  • Experience in group program facilitation.

Work Hours

We have a full-time position available, however we will consider job share arrangements for the right person. Whilst the Centre currently opens normal business hours (8:30am-5:00pm) our psychoeducation groups are typically run after hours therefore flexibility with core working hours is required.

Remuneration will be commiserated with qualifications and experience, noting this position is available for a more senior HP2 or a HP3.
