Think Mental Health (TMH) are seeking to fill an anticipated vacancy for a Team Lead who will be a senior allied health practitioner (Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020, HP 4) to lead our clinical (and wellbeing) teams at Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre. This role focuses on clinical leadership and management of the Clinical Team within the service, in addition to supporting the small Wellbeing team. We are seeking an experienced mental health clinician who is familiar with the ACT mental health sector, managing service delivery and supervision of a multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and skillful leader with experience in working with adult mental health consumers, including assessment and delivery of evidence based psychological interventions. Experience in group program facilitation, particularly DBT is highly desirable.

ELIGIBILITY/ OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The preferred applicant for this role will need to have entitlement to work in Australia and completion of an allied-health degree along with appropriate registration with the Australian Health Professional Registration Agency, Accreditation with the Australian Association of Social Workers or similar accreditation for Counselling. They will also be required, prior to commencing, to obtain (or produce evidence of) a Working with Vulnerable Person’s card, in addition to undergoing a police check.

What we do

Think Mental Health (formerly Think Psychology Solutions) is a private organisation founded in 2011 by two local clinical psychologists, Vanessa Hamilton and Jason McCrae. We deliver both a private mental health clinic (Think Clinic) and a range of community sector mental health services, supported by government funding.

Think Mental Health delivers various community sector mental health services, commissioned by the Capital Health Network (CHN) supported by funding through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care.

We are looking to recruit to a position within the Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre (formerly Head to Health) to replace an expected vacancy in the management team.  

Position Purpose

Think Mental Health (TMH) is the lead agency facilitating the delivery of Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC). We are seeking an experienced, senior mental health clinician who is familiar with the ACT mental health sector, managing service delivery and supervision of a multidisciplinary team. This position has direct operational and clinical oversight of the Clinical Team within the Centre. The team provide a range of psychological interventions to those with moderate to severe mental health needs within the ACT and surrounds.

Our Clinical Team (CT) is staffed by appropriately qualified and experienced mental health professionals who provide comprehensive mental health assessments, treatment planning and psychological interventions in both individual and group formats. This includes the provision of a comprehensive DBT program.

The Clinical Team Lead will work closely with the Intake Team Lead and Centre Manager to contribute to the strategic development and leadership of the Adult Mental Health Centre’s range of services. All staff are provided with appropriate support, clinical supervision and training opportunities to perform their tasks, in a supportive team environment. In addition to management the clinical team, this position also holds oversight of the small Wellbeing team within the Centre, that delivers a range of peer-led services.

The role is a fixed-term contract till 30 June 2026 with probable extension dependent on ongoing Commonwealth funding. 

Position Responsibilities

Management duties: 

  1. Oversight and guidance to clinical staff members delivering services, including in the management of risk and complex cases,
  2. Monitoring clinical caseloads and referrals to the services
  3. Including case reviews and exit planning,
  4. Managing and coordinating all aspects of group program delivery, including identification and development of new, innovative evidence-based groups as needs arises,

In conjunction with Regional Manager and/or Clinical Director

  1. Managing all aspects of the DBT program, including facilitating DBT consult
  2. Oversight and guidance to Wellbeing staff team, including coordination of programs and supporting staff

Participating in quality improvement activities as identified by the management team, including participating in the Think QI committee,

  1. Leadership – leading the clinical team and supporting them to succeed in a changing environment, to foster a positive team culture,
  2. Strategic development to ensure Think remains a leading quality provider of mental health services,
  3. Provide clinical practice leadership and innovation, and performance management of your team and other staff as necessary,
  4. Program reporting as necessary.
  5. Program recruitment in conjunction with the Centre and Regional Manager,
  6. Public representation of the Centre and services provided by your team,
  7. Liaison with relevant stakeholders to promote smooth running of service and cross-sector collaboration,
  8. Overseeing consumer relations, record keeping and complaints relating to your tea
  9. Oversight of case review processes and practice reviews,
  10. Annual reviews of all Clinical staff, including performance feedback,
  11. Other tasks as agreed, may include holding a small clinical caseload if you wish.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  1. Full registration with the relevant Health Professional Board or Accreditation with the appropriate Association,
  2. Experience in clinical leadership, including supervision of staff and students providing a range of mental health interventions

If psychologist, Board Approved Supervisor (BAS) status or eligibility,

  1. Demonstrated experience within the mental health sector, including provision of assessment, treatment planning, intervention and reporting for a range of mental health presentations,
  2. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment, with strong organisational and time management skills,
  3. Strong commitment to best practice, a positive attitude and genuine passion for mental health care.

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Experience in delivery of both individual and group evidence-based interventions,
  2. Training and experience in DBT, individual or skills group, or interest in developing skills in same,
  3. Experience in managing a clinical team,
  4. Experience and appreciation of working with those with lived experience of mental ill-health and recovery.

Work Hours

We have a full-time position available, however we will consider part-time (min 4 days per week) for the right person. The Centre currently opens extended hours (Mon, Wed, Frid: 8:30am-5:00pm and Tues, Thurs: 8:30-7:00pm) and psychoeducation groups are typically run after hours, therefore flexibility with core working hours is required.

Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, noting the position is a Health Professional Level 4 (Leadership) role.
