Helm Youth Services exists to enable young Victorians to thrive through the challenges of transitioning from adolescence to adulthood (ages 15-25). The recent and rapid evolution in the nature of education, work, technology, and social interaction has meant that some young people have lost connections, confidence and constructive pathways to independence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

If you are passionate about youth-focused initiatives and want to make a difference in your community, we encourage you to apply for our Youth Advisory Group. You will join a cohort of diverse people aged 18-24 who live, work or study near Hawthorn. You will receive compensation for your time and have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills that will help you achieve your career and personal goals.

These are casual roles which provide direct input to Helm’s Board and Management, to support Helm’s efforts to build activated communities and to act as ambassadors for Helm and its events and activities.

Requirements for a Youth Advisory Group Member include:

  • Must be able to commit to a minimum of 3 hours per fortnight, including meetings at our Hawthorn based Hub and administration tasks offsite
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to work in a team and be willing to share ideas and perspectives
  • Must be enthusiastic about engagement and helping Helm become a vibrant, bustling youth hub.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

  • Entry level project and time management skills, including managing deadlines and completing tasks. Ability to work independently, take initiative and respond effectively.
  • Ability to work well in a team and to share ideas and perspectives
  • Willingness to represent the organisation at events and activities as needed.
  • Ability to provide feedback and constructive criticism in a professional and respectful manner
  • A moderate level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite is required

KEY RESPONSIBiLITIES

  • Attend fortnightly Youth Advisory Group meetings/workshops and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes
  • The ability to engage with networks and promote events
  • Be able to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Collaborate with other Youth Advisory Group members on projects and initiatives that support Helm’s Vision and Purpose.
  • Offer insight and advice on topics relevant to Helm’s target audience (people aged 15-25).
  • Provide feedback and suggestions on new or existing programs, services, and initiatives.
