Are you a storyteller at heart, with a knack for creating content that engages, inspires and converts? We’re on the lookout for a Content Specialist to join the Marketing and Communications team at HMRI.

About the Opportunity

In this role, you’ll help shine a light on the amazing research, fundraising, and community work we do. Whether it’s writing a captivating news story that encourages donations, conducting interviews for our Searcher magazine, designing website banners, or creating videos, you’ll bring HMRI’s brand and mission to life across digital and print platforms.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Writing engaging content for our website, social media, emails, and more.
  • Interviewing researchers, donors, and community members to tell powerful stories that connect with our audiences.
  • Designing simple graphics for social posts, reports, and events using Canva or Adobe.
  • Creating short videos to showcase our research outcomes, donor stories, and community initiatives.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to turn complex research into clear, relatable messages.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders to find and develop great content opportunities.

What you’ll need:

  • A background in communications, journalism, or marketing (a degree is great!).
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in health, science, or charity sectors.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to tailor content for different audiences.
  • Experience with tools like Canva or Adobe for creating graphics.
  • Basic video production skills and a creative eye for storytelling.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

This is a full-time (1 FTE) permanent position based in the HMRI building on the northern side of the John Hunter Hospital Campus.
