Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Project Officer (Aboriginal identified) to lead the development, implementation, and review of the Homelessness NSW First Nations Cultural Competency and Workforce Development Program. This role is crucial in supporting First Nations Workforce Development and enhancing cultural competence within specialist homelessness services (SHS) in NSW.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a cultural competency program for SHS across NSW.
  • Conduct needs analysis with key stakeholders to inform project planning, design and implementation.
  • Facilitate workshops to co-design and develop local solutions to improve cultural competency for SHS in NSW.
  • Provide tailored support and guidance to SHS working towards improving cultural competency.
  • Support Homelessness NSW team in areas such as evaluation, evidence-based practice and advocacy.
  • Represent Homelessness NSW in forums, network meetings, conferences and advisory groups.
  • Manage staff as required, in line with the role’s expertise.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful workplace environment, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment.
  • Undertake other tasks, duties, or specific projects within your area of skill and expertise, as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong problem-solving skills for engaging with complex issues, including strategic problems facing the homelessness sector.
  • Ability to strategically identify issues, develop work plans, and review project implementation effectiveness.
  • Experience managing diverse stakeholders and leading productive collaboration.
  • Knowledge of the SHS sector and issues facing homelessness services and people experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience in delivering and developing cultural competency and workforce development programs.
  • Three or more years working in the homelessness and/or community services sector.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Flexibility and the ability to work well and contribute to a team environment.
  • Ability to deliver on project milestones and complete tasks within required timeframes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise complex concepts for diverse audiences.

Your Qualification and experience will consist of:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social sciences, psychology, social work, community work, project management, or similar (or equivalent combination of qualifications/experience).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
