The Opportunity

The Director of Commercial Services (Maintenance)  will provide specialist expertise and management to build the capability within Housing Choices to directly deliver an inhouse maintenance services. This role will be instrumental in designing and developing a robust business case and plan to establish Choice Maintenance and expand it across Australia.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to enhancing service delivery, ensuring compliance with social housing legislation, driving cost efficiency, and creating sustainable growth opportunities that align with our vision to provide safe, affordable housing for the community.

What you’ll do

  • Develop a business case for establishing an inhouse maintenance service
  • Implement Choices Maintenance to offer such services in accordance with our Strategic Plan
  • Integrate the service with Your Choice, to support online and direct booking of repairs for residents
  • Integrate the service with the customer and community services
  • Integrate the service with the national assets services
  • Align and support the organisations financial targets and procurement strategy
  • Ensure our in-house maintenance services are delivered against all Regulatory, Contractual, Legislative and Internal Business requirements
  • Lead and manage organisational change initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption.
  • Identify and manage risks related to their functions, including strategic, operational, and compliance risks.

What you’ll bring

  • Deep understanding of delivery of inhouse maintenance services; including establishing, turnaround and operating
  • Understanding of legislation as it relates to operating maintenance services including work health and safety registrations etc
  • Procurement practice
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in business, strategy, management, community housing, property maintenance or equivalent experience
  • Capacity to support change and innovation and deliver creative and leading practice solutions 
  • Experience of creating an in-house maintenance team with a view to commercial opportunity.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) and successful track record in a comparable role or discipline(s) in the public/community, private housing sector or transferable sector
  • Strong understanding of contact centre operations and customer service best practices, particularly in a social housing context relating to maintenance
  • Experience, or ability to acquire skills quickly, in preparing business plans and executing strategy
  • Experience in preparing management, business and regulatory required reports.
  • Strong influencing and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, mentor and manage people.
  • Well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong decision making ability.

  • Provide a current driver’s license and willingness to travel across Housing Choices’ locations, if and as required.
