Born out of the role and value of sport and the influence the North Melbourne Kangaroos plays in connecting people across different ages, genders and cultures; The Huddle was established in 2010 as the community arm of the Club in partnership with the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation.

It was established to engage, support and empower young people to build on their strengths, increase their ability to participate in society and contribute to more socially inclusive communities. The Huddle works with some of the most iconic sporting clubs in the world to help young people learn, grow and belong. Through the design of its innovative programs, The Huddle leverages the power of sport to strengthen social inclusion, education and careers for young people.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working across North Melbourne and Wyndham, the key objective of the Multicultural Development Officer (Part Time Fixed Expiry Contract) is to assist in delivering sport and recreation programs to young people from diverse communities, with the aim of promoting passion and participation in the community.

Reporting to the Head of Sport & Recreation, this role is responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining key relationships with multicultural community ambassadors to profile programs
  • Establishing relationships with young people, parents, and guardians
  • Assisting with the transition of participants from school programs into key programs
  • Facilitating transition pathways for players, coaches, umpires and volunteers from multicultural communities into key programs
  • Working closely with the Community Engagement & Development team to identify barriers and enablers that influence culturally diverse participation in sport
  • Delivering high-quality programs including coordination, implementation, and data collection
  • Promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people by adhering to The Huddle’s Child Safety Code of Conduct

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

Due to the nature of this position, we are seeking a Muslim candidate to ensure cultural alignment to effectively engage with the community. We are looking for an energetic, empathetic, team orientated individual who is passionate about engaging with children and young people.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:

  • Experience in supervising children and young people aged 5-25 years
  • Strong community connections and networks across Melbourne’s West
  • Any lived experience in football participation pathways is desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Knowledge of the football industry, particularly related to the community clubs, AFL Auskick and school football networks
  • Experience in working with people from multicultural and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds

The successful candidate is required to be over 18 years of age, undergo and pass a police check, and hold a current and valid Victorian Working with Children’s Check or Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
