Remote / Work from Home
We are the Humanitarian Changemakers Network; a collective that catalyses and builds the capacity of Aussies working in the humanitarian or social change space to co-create a peaceful, just, and sustainable world. We are seeking changemakers & storytellers to join the Changing Times team, our grassroots, solutions-focused transmedia storytelling platform.
Successful candidates will receive training in our unique transmedia storytelling for social change strategy and digital journalists/storytellers will be responsible for producing a series of individual content pieces for a minimum of one story per month. These content pieces may include web articles, newspaper articles, social media posts, photographs, and/or video and must be of high standards.
Content will focus on developing the capacity of changemakers or exploring potential solutions to some of humanity’s most pressing local and global challenges, with the goal of catalysing Australians to take action in the social change space. There is no limit to the topics or challenges that can be explored, and we encourage storytellers to write about topics of interest to them, provided they meet our brand guidelines and align with international human rights standards and/or the Sustainable Development Goals. Content, once approved, may appear on the Humanitarian Changemakers Network’s website, in the Changing Times print news publication, on our social media channels, and/or on other digital platforms.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is an eagerness to learn and grow throughout the 8-12-month period. Highly skilled in writing and/or video production is desired, and while experience using advanced software is not necessary, basic word processing, graphic design (eg: Canva), and/or video editing (eg: iMovie) skills (or an eagerness to learn) are required.
An understanding of the social change space and the Australian media landscape is also necessary. Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated experience in journalism and/or multimedia production is desirable but not required. Above all, we are seeking individuals with a passion for utilising storytelling through digital communication tools to promote social change.
Storytellers are permitted to republish written content produced for the Changing Times on other platforms (such as personal blogs, LinkedIn, organisation websites) provided the original article is linked and referenced.
