Operated by Hunter Primary Care, headspace Newcastle provides early intervention mental health and overall wellbeing services to 12-25 year olds across the Hunter Region.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Mental Health Clinicians work within the headspace Newcastle team to engage young people and their families, conduct mental health assessments, provide clinical treatment interventions for young people presenting with mental health and/or substance use issues and ensure that young people are linked with appropriate services as required.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology/Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Nursing
- Current AHPRA registration and/or accreditation with the relevant professional body
- Experience in developing high quality therapeutic relationships with young people (12 -25yrs) including engagement and assessment skills that contribute to mental health and well being
- Relevant experience in providing evidence based/best practice intervention strategies with young people experiencing mental health and/or substance use issues (and their families/carers)
- Demonstrated understanding of developmental needs of young people
- Understanding of the issues and barriers for young people in accessing physical and mental health services
- Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously, whilst being part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use electronic medical record systems, and relevant software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
- Evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19
- Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance
