International Committee of the Red Cross
  • Join one of the world's leading humanitarian organisations
  • Legal Adviser - International Committee of the Red Cross (Suva)

The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war. As an independent and neutral organisation, the ICRC's mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions. Based in Switzerland, it employs some 16,000 people in 80 countries and is financed mainly by voluntary donations from governments and from national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies.

The ICRC Regional Delegation in the Pacific is seeking a full-time Legal Adviser, to be based in its Regional Delegation in Suva. The Legal Adviser will assist the Regional Legal Adviser to promote and support ratification and implementation of international humanitarian law treaties in Pacific Island countries, including by researching, analysing and summarising developments in national laws and practices. The successful applicant will have a detailed knowledge of international humanitarian law, hold a Bachelor of Laws or a bachelor’s degree in a related field, have experience in finding, analysing, interpreting and summarising written materials, and have strong communication, organisational and computer skills (MS Office). Knowledge and understanding of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and familiarity with the Pacific region would be an advantage.
