ID. Know Yourself is an Aboriginal led non-for-profit that was founded by Isaiah Dawe in 2019 who has had firsthand experience growing up in the foster system. The aim is to fill the gaps for our young people aged 7-16 years old by providing love, consistency and holistic support that gives young people living in out of home care the chance to establish belonging, purpose and empowerment.

Our program delivers group sessions and mentoring support to Aboriginal children aged 7-16 years old who have been impacted by cultural dispossession, systematic disadvantage, and complex trauma.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Program Manager to lead our team of Aboriginal Youth Mentors and deliver our program to our young people.

As Program Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and expanding our program with the overall aim of reconnecting our young people to culture and preparing them with essential life skills for life after care. We aim to support our young people to establish belonging, discover purpose and empower positive choices. We know that patience, passion and a willingness to learn and grow with our young people are key attributes needed in creating positive outcomes in their lives.

Given how our program is run, we require the Program Manager to be available to work evenings on Mondays and Wednesdays (with flexibility to start later on these days). Usual working hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

ABOUT YOU

Identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement of this role in accordance with the provisions of Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, establish, improve, and implement the program
  • Develop and implement plans for program expansion
  • Facilitate the intake of young people via referral pathways
  • Direct service including 1:1 mentoring and facilitating group sessions
  • Contribute to developing relationships with community and key stakeholders
  • Present quarterly program reviews (qualitative and quantitative data) and outcomes in meetings with a range of stakeholders and management team
  • Manage direct reports; set work priorities, KPI management and ensure compliance with contracted work agreements including regular hours
  • Work together with the CEO to conduct annual performance review appraisals for all direct reports including creating career plans for short-term and long-term goals and providing constructive feedback
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO and HR (Employsure) on employee relations matters
  • Work together with the Curriculum Coordinator and Mentors on implementing program activities
  • Manage participant data and analyse social impact results
  • Track program expenditure against allocated budget
  • Project administration which ensures achievement of business objectives

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Proven understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal peoples, their culture and communities
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues facing Aboriginal communities and young people, trauma and the intergenerational affect
  • Sound and demonstrated experience leading social impact, community development or related programs in Aboriginal communities
  • An understanding of the Australian not-for-profit sector
  • Experience developing program strategy
  • Effective and efficient project management experience (e.g., processes, timelines, budgets and reporting)
  • Experience leading a team in a collaborative manner to achieve program outcomes
  • Demonstrated initiative, and ability to work autonomously exercising sound judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to follow systems and processes to maintain accurate records
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time management and organisation to accomplish objectives effectively within time frames
  • Well-developed analytical skills including the ability to analyse, and interpret complex information from numerous sources
  • Ability to deal with challenges creatively to achieve solutions

The successful candidate will have:

  • A relevant qualification or degree (e.g., Project Management, Education, Youth Work)
  • Proven experience in Program Management (at least 5 years working for Community or in Community services)
  • Proven experience leading and managing a team
