The Independent Education Union, NSW/ACT Branch is seeking to appoint an experienced full time Administrative Assistant to provide support to a team of dedicated Union Organisers and elected Union Officials. The role involves the successful applicant providing support to the organising team, in the conduct of campaigns and supporting the professional development team in delivering training to our members and will require flexibility to adapt to the changing priorities of work as they emerge.

This position offers a dynamic environment where you can contribute to the success of union campaigns and support member engagement in professional development opportunities offered by the union.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

  • Support a team of union organisers in their work
  • Perform high-level word processing tasks, including minute taking
  • Provide higher-level basic administrative duties, including supporting senior union officials
  • Manage incoming communications, including screening phone calls, inquiries, and requests, and directing them appropriately.
  • Organise and oversee travel and accommodation arrangements for union organisers, elected officials and union members.
  • Assist in planning, organising and overseeing professional development events, training sessions, workshops, union meetings and online events, including creating and managing training resources.
  • Organise meetings, book venues and arrange catering requirements.
  • Book school visits and organise kits for school visits.
  • Provide additional administrative support that includes relieving reception and switchboard duties, and meeting room setup.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks such as photocopying, collating documents and other duties as directed.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Understanding of the principles underpinning the Union’s work
  • Proven experience in a similar administrative role
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, and SharePoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise initiative
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Flexible and able to adjust to changing environments, tasks, and priorities.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience, on a range starting from $85,000 – $94,000.

  • Approximately 5 additional days leave at Christmas
  • 35-hour week, ability to work additional time to accrue RDO’s
