The Independent Education Union Victoria Tasmania is seeking an ongoing full-time Victorian-based Member Services Officer, working as part of the Member Services team which primarily assists in the delivery of industrial advice, support and assistance to members.

The Member Services Officer manages a caseload of complex matters and provides expert industrial advice, support and advocacy for members, including drafting responses and representation work.

The Member Services team carries out this role in line with the union’s objectives of building membership and activism in the union and to implement the goals of the IEU articulated through the organisation’s Strategic Vision.

Our members work as teachers and in a variety of other roles in Catholic and independent schools and across other private education and training providers.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA - ESSENTIAL

  • Experience providing industrial relations advice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to unionism.
  • High level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including:
    • the ability to communicate with a diverse audience
    • the ability to communicate complex and sensitive matters objectively, calmly and with empathy
    • the ability to write clear, accurate and concise correspondence
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of IEUVicTas Agreements and other relevant industrial instruments and stakeholder policies.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret industrial instruments and develop and update reference material.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with key stakeholders including employers, principals, members and to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to show initiative and demonstrate high level organisational skills including being able to work to deadlines, prioritise work, and manage multiple matters concurrently.
  • Understanding of gender and cultural diversity that impact on the Union’s members.
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence.

FAVOURABLY VIEWED:

  • Experience working in non-government education.
  • Experience working for a union or advocacy organisation.

The IEU Victoria Tasmania provides a collegial and supportive working environment with a comprehensive package of wages and conditions in accordance with the IEU Staff Agreement. IEU officers are expected to perform some out of hours work.
