Redfern Jarjum College is a co-educational primary school dedicated to supporting urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
The College’s mission is to alleviate social, emotional, behavioural, and health disadvantages while equipping students with the skills and confidence to transition to mainstream schooling. With a low student-to-teacher ratio, the College provides culturally attuned and locally responsive education, ensuring each child receives individual support across all aspects of their development.
Impact You Will Have
As the Fundraising and Communications Officer, you will play a pivotal role in building and expanding the College’s donor base, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and community giving.
Your efforts will directly support the College’s mission and help to grow its brand awareness. You will collaborate closely with the Principal, Board of Directors, and Gamarada Leadership Team to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies, while also leading marketing and communications efforts to increase engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Fundraising & Relationship Management
- Identify, engage, and steward major donors, trusts, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Develop tailored donor engagement plans and stewardship strategies.
- Manage and grow bequest and scholarship programs.
- Prepare compelling proposals, grant applications, and funding reports.
- Track and report on fundraising progress, ensuring KPIs and revenue targets are met.
- Communications & Donor Engagement
- Work with College staff to create impactful case studies that illustrate student experiences.
- Develop donor communications, including newsletters, reports, and personalised engagement materials.
- Manage the College’s website and all digital platforms.
- Create marketing collateral using tools like Canva and InDesign.
- Organise donor visits, stewardship events, and fundraising initiatives.
- Maintain an accurate database of donor interactions, contacts, and funding opportunities.
- Operational & Strategic Contributions
- Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure accurate payment processing and donor acknowledgments.
- Provide regular reports and insights to the Board and leadership team.
- Stay informed about fundraising best practices and sector trends.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Experience in fundraising, donor relations, or community partnerships.
- Proven success in securing major gifts, corporate sponsorships, or grants.
- Strong relationship-building skills with donors, sponsors, and community partners.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor communications and funding proposals.
- Experience leading marketing across both traditional and digital channels, including website management, collateral creation, and social media.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with CRM systems and fundraising platforms.
- Understanding of the not-for-profit sector and fundraising best practices.
- Ability to undergo a National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
Desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in fundraising, marketing, or a community-related field.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities or with culturally diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the education or social impact sectors.
