Impact Advising
  • Join a leading medical research institute making a real impact
  • Engage with trusts and foundations, PAFS and high-value donors
  • Flexible hybrid working – Randwick location with WFH options

Impact of the Organisation

From advances in dementia and mental health to discoveries in chronic pain and falls prevention, Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) has been at the forefront of neuroscience for over 30 years. They are an independent, not-for-profit, medical research institute dedicated to improving the lives of people living with brain and nervous system disorders.

Impact you will have

As the Trusts, Foundations & Philanthropy Executive, you will play a critical role in securing funding to support NeuRA’s research priorities. Reporting to the Philanthropy Manager, you will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships primarily with Trusts and Foundations as well as a portfolio of mid and major donors and family offices.

You will also collaborate closely with NeuRA researchers to develop compelling grant applications and funding proposals, and you will ensure excellent donor stewardship.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity as NeuRA’s trusts and foundations program is in its infancy, with huge potential for growth. We need a fundraiser who is motivated and a self-starter who is eager to shape and expand this critical area of fundraising.

We are looking for someone who has the desire to engage with a variety of donors through written, verbal, and face-to-face interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with Trusts and Foundations and mid/major donors to secure vital funding.
  • Manage the end-to-end grants and trusts and foundations process, from prospect identification and relationship building to grant and proposal development, reporting, and acquittal.
  • Research, identify, and prepare high-quality grant applications, EOIs, and funding proposals.
  • Write compelling applications for funding, taking the work of the researchers and developing this into compelling applications in line with funding requirements.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders including researchers and our university partners to manage the development of the trusts and foundations program.
  • Develop donor engagement and stewardship plans to deepen relationships and increase commitment to NeuRA’s mission.
  • Ensure accurate donor record-keeping, reporting, and communications.
  • Work alongside the philanthropy manager to build and develop relationships with high-value donors, managing donor journeys and stewarding donors to an ask.
  • Organise donor visits and events in line with NeuRA’s philanthropy strategy.
  • Achieve revenue targets and contribute to team KPIs.

Skills and Experience

  • An understanding of the funding landscape across trusts and foundations and PAFs.
  • Proven experience in relationship-based fundraising, with a track record of securing philanthropic gifts and grants.
  • Strong ability to engage, cultivate, and maintain relationships with high-value donors and funding bodies.
  • Experience preparing trust and foundation applications, translating complex research into accessible proposals.
  • Experience in working with donors and stewarding them through donor journeys to foster engagement that leads to an ask.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and self-management: able to prioritise multiple deadlines and work independently.
  • Passion for medical research and its impact on public health and well-being.
  • Familiarity with donor CRM systems (e.g., RE NXT, Stretegic Grants and GEMS portal) is desirable

Why Join NeuRA?

  • Be part of an organisation making a real difference in neuroscience research.
  • Work in a supportive, collaborative, and high-performing team.
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements (Randwick-based with WFH options).
  • Opportunity to build meaningful relationships and drive impactful fundraising efforts.
