indigo foundation is an innovative international community development organisation based in Australia. For over 20 years, we have supported grassroots organisations to pursue their development goals. We currently partner with and support seven communities in six countries - Afghanistan, India, Rwanda, Indonesia, Bougainville, and Timor Leste. We are a proudly nimble and creative organisation, with committed volunteers and supporters across Australia.
indigo foundation develops long-term community led partnerships that work to empower women and girls, improve education and health outcomes, secure better livelihoods for families and defend human rights in their communities. Our approach to partnership is built on respect, mutual learning and accepting that progress and setbacks are a normal part of community development. We believe powerful and positive change is achieved through community control over decision-making, honest communication and investing in local capacities and people.
indigo is a virtual organisation with three part time staff and a strong network of volunteers and supporters in Australia.
The indigo foundation board has nine members with a diverse mix of professional and life experience and skills. All are highly committed to indigo’s purpose and goals and to our guiding principles – community ownership, sustainability, equity, and transparency. The Board is the governing body with overall accountability to indigo’s members, donors, development partners and supporters.
The Board meets four times a year on Sundays, with at least one face to face meeting annually. Board members are encouraged to bring their expertise and energy to helping indigo grow its impact, influence, and sustainability. Board members may be invited to participate in working groups in their area of expertise or interest. The role can be based anywhere in Australia, however recent and current members have been from NSW, ACT and Victoria.
We are looking for people who can demonstrate an understanding of indigo’s guiding principles - community ownership, equity, transparency, and sustainability – and are motivated by our community development and partnership approach. Candidates should have a strong commitment to community-led development, gender justice and social inclusion. We believe that diversity will make us a stronger organisation and we particularly encourage candidates with lived experience in the global south or lived experience as a member of a diaspora community within Australia to apply.
Over and above their governance role, Board members generally carry responsibility for other activities that fit their skills and the organisation's needs.
indigo foundation is committed to being an inclusive organisation and has been working to ensure diversity in the profile of our board and volunteers. We do not discriminate on the basis of ability, age, gender identity and expression, national origin, race and ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or criminal record.
We will short list and interview candidates in mid-October. Requests for further information to Lyla Rogan, Chair, indigo foundation: [email protected] using the subject line: Board Member (Voluntary) - Flexible Location enquiry via EthicalJobs.
