Injalak Arts & Craft Aboriginal Corporation is an established art centre located in Gunbalanya, Western Arnhem Land, beside Injalak Hill which holds some of the most significant rock art in the world. Injalak artists create paintings on paper and bark, carvings, weavings, textile design and screen-printing, multimedia projects, and much more. The art centre offers important opportunities for the people of Gunbalanya and surrounding homelands not only in terms of employment and other economic development, but social, cultural, health and wellbeing. The art centre is internationally renowned for its representation of Kunwinjku traditions and contemporary art and design.

About the role:

The Gallery & Sales Coordinator is part of a small, dynamic workforce team at Injalak Arts. The position primarily focuses on coordinating the Injalak retail gallery - both on-site at Gunbalanya, and online via the website. The Gallery & Sales Coordinator is the main front-of-house position welcoming visitors to the art centre. Key to the position is presenting a clean and vibrant gallery space, generating strong sales growth, and providing a positive customer experience.

Gallery & Sales Coordinator - Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent customer service and a welcoming gallery for all visitors
  • Manage the display of high quality presentations of artworks and products
  • Present customers with interesting and authentic information about Injalak, its artists and the artwork on display
  • Assist in maintaining quality control including providing a clean, safe, and secure work environment
  • Ensure amenities for visitors and tourists are presented at a high standard
  • Develop positive working relationships with the local community, Injalak Arts partners, relevant agencies, stakeholders, suppliers, and service providers

Sales

  • Make sales to customers ensuring sales targets are met and seek opportunities for further income growth
  • Package works, coordinate freight and prepare paperwork for customers using the SAM database (receipts, invoices, consignments, certificates of authenticity, freight labels)
  • Oversee online sales generated through the etsy and website pages
  • Liaise with customers of any unforeseen delays or problems with their orders
  • Reconcile daily gallery sales and ensure the safe handling of cash

Admin

  • Maintain efficient, safe and accurate electronic file management systems
  • Support staff in cataloguing, photographing and artwork tagging and assist at the buying desk during busy periods
  • Maintain regular communication with the CEO on all gallery matters
  • Communicate customer/client/staff issues with the CEO and devise ways of improving the customer and workplace experience, including resolving problems and complaints
  • Participate in the annual stocktake with team members
  • In consultation with the Operations Manager assist with the ordering of materials and equipment
  • Ensure the rights of members are upheld, including copyright, intellectual and cultural property, resale royalty and the Australian
    Indigenous Art Code of Conduct

Marketing & Professional Development

  • Represent Injalak Arts at events, exhibitions, conferences and workshops as required
  • Develop Bininj (Indigenous) capacity by fostering a supportive learning environment
  • Support and supervise occasional volunteers
  • Assist the team with other Injalak projects and events as they arise
  • Other duties as may be directed from time to time
