The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) is an exciting non-profit global research organisation dedicated to shifting the world’s focus to peace as a positive, achievable, and tangible measure of human well-being and progress.

IEP main products - the Global Peace Index and Global Terrorism Index - receive billions of media impressions per annum and are considered the leading products in the world in their field. The Institute’s core research products are used in thousands of universities courses and with partners conducting training courses in countries such as Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Mexico or Uganda.

The Institute’s research is regularly featured in leading international media publications including the Guardian, the Economist, Huffington Post, Washington Post, CNN, and BBC.

At present we need an Economist (Research Fellow) to perform the following tasks:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide quality quantitative and economics analysis in support of IEP’s core research outputs in the Global Peace Index, Global Terrorism Index, Ecological Threat Report, Mexico Peace Index and Positive Peace Index.
  • Analyse datasets within R, Github and Microsoft Excel.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills is expected.
  • Collect and analyse information from a wide variety of sources; monitor relevant material from conferences and seminars, government and intergovernmental documents, academic journals, institutional databases, relevant civil society organisations and NGOs.
  • Work with Project Leads and other Researchers to meet project deadlines.
  • Write client facing reports on issues in international development.
  • Work with the IEP communicators Department on proofreading and date visualisations.
  • Be available for morning and evening meetings across US and EU time zones.

Appropriate candidate must have the following skills, education and experience:

Education: Master’s degree or similar in a combination of economics and/or statistics, development studies, international relations or other social sciences discipline. Minimum two years’ professional experience conducting empirical research and quantitative data analysis specifically related to a combination of social sciences, development studies, economics, statistics and peace and conflict studies.

Excellent writing skills. Experience in business or consulting writing for a non-technical audience will be prioritised over academic publications.

Australian Experience: At least 5 + years of Australian Experience

Overseas Experience: At least 5+ years of Overseas Experience

Specialist: Economist

Work Rights: Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident or Full Work Rights Holder
