The Opportunity

IPC Health have partnered with Western Health and the Royal Children’s Hospital to co-design and lead the Brimbank Melton Children’s Health and Wellbeing Local (previously referred to as Hub).

The Local will provide support for infants, children and families, delivering services like psychology, psychiatry, allied health, family supports and paediatricians. People with lived experience will also form an important part of the Local’s workforce. The service will support children aged 0-11 who are experiencing developmental, behavioural or emotional challenges and their families, and will focus on early intervention and providing age-appropriate care.

Within this rewarding role, as a Lived Experience Practitioner, you will build strong rapport with consumers of the Local and accompany them on their journey through the service.

With the exciting growth of our Local team, there are multiple ongoing Lived Experience Practitioners opportunities offering flexibility for Part Time or Full Time. For Part Time opportunities, a minimum commitment of 0.4FTE (30.4 hours per fortnight) is required.

This position is classified as a Social and Community Services Employee at Level 2-3 under the Community Health Centre (Stand Alone Services) Social And Community Service Employees Multi Enterprise Agreement 2022.

You will make a difference by

  • Empowering consumers who have a lived childhood experience or caring for a child who has mental ill health, developmental disability or challenges with emotional regulation and supporting their wellness journey through a range of non-clinical community based supports that is a strengths-based approach to individuals and groups.
  • Establishing a relationship of mutuality and information sharing that promotes choices, self-determination and opportunities for collaborative learning
  • Meaningfully share your lived experience with consumers and staff, offering encouragement and support to improve consumers’ overall mental health and wellbeing; and a peer perspective.
  • Contributing to program content and activities which support the wellbeing of infant, children and families

To succeed you will need

Either:

  • A lived childhood experience of mental ill health, developmental disability or utilisation of multidisciplinary health care and family supports;

OR

  • A lived experience of caring for a child who has mental ill health, developmental disability or challenges with emotional regulation.
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills to engage and support consumers from a mutual perspective through sharing lived experience; and develop a trusting and professional relationship.
  • Commitment to consumer participation at an individual and group level
  • Experience in communication, collaboration, and representation with diverse individuals and groups.
  • The ability to participate and contribute to collaborative research and evaluation.
  • A current and valid Victorian Working with Children’s Check.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook.
  • Training in Intentional Peer Support or equivalent (applicable to Level 3).
  • A minimum of two years experience working as a Lived Experience Worker or Peer Worker in a Health or Social Service (applicable to Level 3).
