ReWild Your School Facilitator - Flexible Location

Jane Goodall Institute Australia

The JGIA Office is Headquartered in Sydney. We are seeking facilitators for all main metro areas across Australia as well as regional centres.

About the Rewild Your School Program

The ReWild Your School (RYS) Program is designed to encourage custodianship for the natural world. This program is aimed at years 5 and 6 and developed to meet key curriculum and sustainability outcomes.

The program is delivered as a series of 10 Actions that build on each other to provide a holistic understanding of select ‘Champion Animals’ (CA) that are known to exist within the immediate location of each school.

The program can be delivered as an incursion presented by an RYS Facilitator, or via a Resource Pack - a combination of digital and printed resources for teacher-led delivery.

This is a national program with the aim to position JGIA as a leader in environmental education. After the success of our pilot program, JGIA is formally launching the RYS program in 2025. We are looking to employ keen individuals to help us make it a reality.

Upon an enquiry from a school, the closest RYS Facilitator within a reasonable distance from the school (limits on distance apply), will be contacted to determine their availability.

You can learn more about the program here: www.janegoodall.org.au/rewild-your-school/.

About the Role

The RYS Facilitator is responsible for implementing the RYS Program in schools in their local area and beyond. Most often they will work independently, however where we have large bookings a second RYS Facilitator may also be employed.

A minimum commitment of 3 hours is required per workshop, however the duration will depend on student numbers and may be more depending on school opening hours, before and after school set up/down times etc. This role is sporadic and would suit someone looking for a casual role that can be accommodated beside other commitments. We cannot guarantee a quantity of bookings but it is our intention to build the program for regular bookings across all areas.

The role will work very closely with the Resources Manager | Education Programs and other members of the JGIA team.

  1. You will be responsible for gathering necessary resources ahead of the workshop for use during the workshop, and/or we will post resources to you prior to the workshop.
  2. Role responsibilities on the day include but are not limited to set up and set down which involves carrying resources and building materials to and from the school, workshop facilitation, and leading class groups on outdoor activities across the school.
  3. You will also be required to follow up and ensure the school completes an evaluation survey to gather critical feedback to support improvement.

As RYS Facilitator, you will be a people leader who is comfortable being hands-on whilst keeping the wider JGIA organisational objectives and priorities in mind.

Essential Criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  2. Demonstrated passion about the environment and environmental education.
  3. A thorough knowledge of Australian biodiversity and the needs of plants and animals.
  4. The understanding to apply ecological principles on a local scale and the means and drive to research as needed to apply the program for local relevance.
  5. Ability to learn the program to deliver it with confidence. This also includes attending training provided by JGIA.
  6. Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills, with the ability to effectively tailor communication for the age and comprehension of the audience.
  7. Excellent written, verbal and science communication skills
  8. Strong problem solving and organisational skills.
  9. Demonstrated experience working autonomously and as part of a team.
  10. Excellent time management skills to ensure the smooth running of the program across rolling workshops.
  11. The ability to work well remotely and with remote team members located interstate.
  12. A degree in natural sciences and/or a teaching degree (in the process of completing one will also be considered).
  13. A current police check and working with children check (or willingness to apply).
  14. Ownership of a car which you are willing and able to use to travel independently.
