The ACT Public Advocate (PA) and Children and Young People Commissioner (CYPC) is seeking a passionate, highly organised, and motivated Advocate who will work to uphold the PA’s statutory oversight functions to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and rights of Canberran’s experiencing vulnerability.

Working within a team environment, the Advocate is responsible for representing the PA in advocacy and oversight activities, which includes individual and systemic advocacy, monitoring and oversight of service systems, systemic reform processes, and systemic review projects.

The successful applicant will apply their excellent human services and organisational skills to efficiently and effectively triage a wide range of information received by the PA and respond to matters from an individual and systemic perspective. This role perfectly blends direct client engagement with systemic reform opportunities. You will work at an individual and systemic level to make positive and lasting changes across a range of services including Mental Health, Out of Home Care, and Youth Justice services.

Eligibility / Other requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Social Work, Psychology, Law, Mental Health, Child Protection, etc. are highly desirable.
  • Driver’s License (C class) is highly desirable.
  • This position does not require a pre-employment medical.
  • Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) - Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration (act.gov.au).

Notes

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
