About Us:

Galiwin’ku Women’s Space Aboriginal Corporation. is a Yolngu-run organisation dedicated to addressing domestic and family violence in the Galiwin’ku Community, NE Arnhem Land. We combine Yolngu and Balanda knowledge and skills to stop the cycle of violence, providing crisis management and prevention services, including Crisis Accommodation, that strengthen culture and empower families.

Position Purpose:

The DFSV Primary Prevention Counsellor will design, implement, and monitor initiatives and policies aimed at addressing the underlying drivers of violence against women in Galiwin’ku. The role involves delivering early intervention and prevention counselling using creative therapy to support clients, and work with partners to develop collaborative systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Support: Provide a range of evidence-based psychological interventions, including trauma-informed and client-led services. Deliver early intervention support, facilitate community activities, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Program Delivery: Implement early intervention and prevention counselling programs using creative therapy, work with partners to support Domestic and Sexual Violence survivors and maintain a monitoring and evaluation system.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate client records, ensuring all case notes are entered promptly and efficiently.
  • Safety: Take preventative action in high-risk situations, identify and record incidents and hazards, and perform all duties safely.
  • Community Engagement: Assist clients in accessing support services, determine appropriate referrals, and facilitate client engagement with Galiwin’ku Women’s Space services.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as directed by the reporting manager, consistent with skills and experience.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications: Registered Psychologist or Social Worker with Mental Health Accreditation. Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Counselling, with current registration with the relevant professional body.
  • Skills: Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills, ability to interact in a cross-cultural environment, strong written and oral communication skills, and competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Requirements: NT Working with Children’s Check, Current Police Check, NT Manual Driver’s License, Senior First Aid Certificate (or the ability to obtain), compliance with NT Government Covid-19 vaccination requirements (if applicable).

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Understanding the impacts of domestic and family violence.
  • Knowledge of NGO governance and related legislation.
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, particularly in an Indigenous Community.

Your Reward

  • $82,043 per annum (base rate as per SCHADS Award - Social and Community Services – Level 4 PP1)
  • Salary sacrificing up to $15,900 per annum
  • FIFO Darwin
  • Roster 4:1 weeks (open to alternative roster arrangement)

  • Five weeks annual leave per annum
