The Business

An Indigenous Ranger group performing land and sea management within Arnhem Land, Northern Territory including fire management (prescribed burning and wildfire suppression), weed management, feral animal management, rock art and ecology programs.

The Opportunity

To contribute to meaningful and cultural environmental preservation, through coordinating and facilitating the development of the Indigenous Rangers, translating the Healthy Country Plan into action, and ensuring the training and mentoring of Rangers to develop a strong, professional, skilled and highly effective Ranger team.

  • Provide operational and logistical support as a Coordinator for Ranger bases and Ranger staff
  • Provide remote/ on ground logistical support for Board Meetings, events and various organisational tasks
  • Be responsible for management of vehicles, machinery and plant assets, as well as infrastructure to ensure a smooth transition of operational tasks related to the land management program
  • Assist with consultation work trips with Traditional Owners (TO’s) as required for the operational program, philanthropy visits to the IPA, as well as Ecology and Rock Art programs
  • Ensure that timesheets for Rangers under their supervision are updated daily and submitted on time and place community food orders
  • Responsible for raising purchase orders using delegated organisational software
  • Perform Data collection for fire management (prescribed burning and wildfire suppression), feral animal and weed management programs
  • Contribute towards various Government and Philanthropic grant reporting
  • Support funding applications, event coordination, and public speaking, to share project insights
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times
  • Scheduled maintenance and general upkeep of Ranger Coordinator and visitor accommodation and infrastructure at Ranger bases and remote localities

About You

  • Have a relevant work experience or a tertiary qualification in natural resource management or relevant
  • Are competent in community engagement in a cross-cultural environment, with a wide range of external stakeholders including consultation with Indigenous Traditional Owners
  • Have a positive attitude and can motivate others, train, mentor and empower Indigenous Rangers
  • Have good administration and computer skills
  • Are a team player but can also work independently
  • Have mechanical ability
  • Are comfortable working outdoors in a tropical environment including camping
  • Have experience, an understanding of and a willingness to live and work with Aboriginal people in a remote setting
  • Can lead a small team
  • Have experience in Geographic Information System (GIS) and, or the ability to use a variety of GIS mapping software
  • Enjoy a dynamic, ever changing work environment, particularly in managing and prioritising jobs including coordinating logistics
  • Hold a current valid driver’s license, capability and experience operating a manual 4WD in remote off-road conditions
  • Hold a current first aid certificate or have the ability to obtain one
  • Hold a Working with Children’s Check (WCC) or have the ability to obtain an Ochre Card
  • Have a Coxswains Certificate (desirable)
  • Are able to commence mid 2025
