About Mimal

Mimal Land Management is focused on bringing benefits to country and culture for the Dalabon, Rembarrnga and Mayili landowners and people in south central Arnhem Land.

The Mimal Land Management area sits at the geographic centre of Arnhem Land, about 250km east from Katherine. It covers an area that’s nearly as big as Kakadu National Park.

The main communities and homelands in the area include Bulman, Weemol and Barrapunta (Emu Springs). About 300 people reside in Bulman and Weemol, which is located 312km north east of Katherine on the Central Arnhem Highway.

Position Overview

The Ranger Coordinator, based at Weemol Ranger Base in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, plays a critical role in the on-ground implementation of Mimal Land Management Aboriginal Corporation’s land management strategies on behalf of Traditional Owners.

The coordinator will work closely with the Mimal Land Management CEO, other coordinators, and the core workforce of 30 full-time and seasonal casual staff to coordinate day-to-day administrative tasks and on-ground works.

The Ranger Coordinator will also be responsible for supporting on-the-job training and leading by example in the delivery of fire, weed, and feral animal management projects.

Demonstrated experience in coordinating land management projects, preferably in a similar environment or with Indigenous communities.

  • Strong understanding of fire, weed, and feral animal management practices and principles.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous land management practices and cultural protocols.
  • Commitment to working respectfully and collaboratively with Traditional Owners and Indigenous communities.
  • No impediments to holding a firearm licence or gain clearance for an Ochre Card, or customs/parks enforcement powers.

An attractive reward package:

A salary in the range of $90k-$101k + 12.5% Superannuation, 6 weeks Annual Leave (plus Public Holidays), accommodation and utlities paid during remote living and relocation allowance.

Contract term is 2 years.
