John Chapman Lawyers is a small child protection law firm based in Melbourne’s CBD. We are seeking either a recently admitted lawyer, or a lawyer with up to 2 years Court advocacy experience to work with us in child protection law.

This is a full time, fixed term position for 6 months, with a possibility of being a full time permanent position.

Ideally this position will suit someone who is willing to work with and/or has experience with vulnerable, disadvantaged and primarily lower socio-economic families in both the child protection and family violence prevention spheres. 95% of our clients are legally aided through Victoria Legal Aid. A strong sense of rights of the family unit and a genuine passion for social justice is required for this position.

You will spend most days in the Children’s Court, providing accurate, timely and clear legal and procedural advice to parents and child clients. You will represent our clients as a solicitor advocate in the courtroom, or as a legal advisor in mediation.

You will require strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. You will be closely mentored by a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Specialist in Children's Law.

Any experience with the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 is desirable. Our firm services Melbourne, Moorabbin and Broadmeadows Children’s Courts so a driver’s licence is required.
