About The Junction Works:
The Junction Works is a not for profit, community-based organisation serving Sydney’s south-west since 1987. With its mission of ‘creating new possibilities in people’s lives’, The Junction Works focuses on delivering creative and enriching community, youth, children’s and disability services that are designed to improve the lives of some of the community’s most vulnerable people.
The Community & Youth Team provide a range of targeted early intervention and social inclusion programs that encourage peer support, civic responsibility and a sense of belonging. The team also provides medium term intervention for young people and families experiencing difficulties as well as facilitating skill development workshops and events for children, young people and community members.
The Role:
Some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Designing, facilitating and monitoring local community programs during school terms for Claymore residents, seniors, families and children
- Programs to facilitate include Learning Clubs, Art and Craft groups, Community Lunches, Work for the Dole program, Career Planning groups and more
- The opportunity to create and develop new programs and services
- Facilitating events in the local community (Easter, Christmas, etc.) and school holiday programs
- Networking with other agencies and groups, including partnerships and meetings
- Overseeing, mentoring and leading both staff and volunteers at the centre
- Successfully achieving and meeting funding requirements
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualification in Community, Social Sciences, Social Work, or other relevant discipline
- Experience working within a community centre environment and group facilitation
- Experience with social housing communities and multi-cultural communities
- Experience with supervising, mentoring and coaching the Work for the Dole program
- Experience working with homelessness or domestic violence is desirable
- Strong communication skills and mediation skills
- Proven ability to make networking and partnership connections with various agencies and services
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, be proactive and take initiative as well as able to work well within a team
- Established internal and external stakeholder management along with negotiation and problem solving skills
- Well-developed written and administration skills, with high level attention to detail
- Proven organisational, time, priority and conflict management skills
- Maintain and coordinate the community centre, including WHS duties, site duties and more
- An open and creative mindset to the position
- Data Exchange (DEX) experience is desirable
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current NSW Drivers Licence
- Current NSW Working with Children Check
