Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre is the Gold Coast’s only dedicated Aboriginal cultural centre and provides a one-of-a-kind tourism experience.

Operated by Kalwun Development Corporation, a not-for-profit organisation that provides housing, health, aged care and family support services to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, Jellurgal aims to preserve, promote and share Aboriginal culture.

Jellurgal Cultural Tour Guides (Casual Positions)

An exciting opportunity exists for motivated Aboriginal community members to join Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre’s amazing team to provide cultural tours and workshops to visitors and the wider community. 

The roles, based at the centre in Burleigh Heads, are casual positions suited to individuals who are passionate about providing cultural education and working with a wide range of customers. On-the-job training will be provided under the guidance and support of the Jellurgal team.

About the role

  • On-the-job training will be provided
  • Conduct cultural tours and cultural workshops both at the centre and locations across the Gold Coast
  • Provide education on the local area
  • Plan, book and manage tour groups of varying sizes
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with visitors, industry partners, community, colleagues, Elders and other clients
  • Liaise with relevant internal staff, stakeholders and Regional Tourism Organisations 
  • Provide administrative support as required.

Mandatory Terms

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check, hold a current drivers' license and hold a blue card for working with children. The 'No Card No Start' law applies to this position - a blue card must be obtained prior to commencement. 
  • *IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.
