Role

The successful applicant will work as a member of the college’s Student Health, Wellbeing and Engagement team to provide both preventative and targeted wellbeing support for students. This will require the applicant to effectively meet the key elements highlighted in the selection criteria and the list of responsibilities. The team member will work within the parameters and dimensions of work as per the Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2022.

The general role description for ES1-3 from the VGSA is as follows

Performs and/or supervises tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy. This may include the supervision and coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program. Supervision and coordination would be limited to ensuring routine tasks are performed to required standards. Input into identifying training needs and development of education support class staff within the work area or educational program becomes an important feature at range 3.

Undertakes medical intervention support tasks or other specialised student/teacher support roles that require specific training that must be updated from time to time. The role is for a specific purpose for which there will be direct accountability as opposed to support roles that are carried out by a range of staff performing routine tasks under direction.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include the duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.

Supervision of students can be required where it is an integral part of the employee’s position or in circumstances where supervision is required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

The responsibilities of this position will be:

  • Deliver support service/s in a school/s, including the direct counselling for students with a range of mental health issues, applying sound theoretical knowledge.
  • Plan and implement evidence-based intervention strategies for students with complex needs including collaborating with families, other professionals and agencies when appropriate.
  • Provide advice and professional learning to others, such as teachers and other school wellbeing staff, to build the capacity of schools to improve students’ learning and developmental outcomes.
  • Liaise with other Department areas (including secondary school nurses and Student Support Services staff) and external service providers where necessary to provide support to students.
  • Maintain professional competence and continued professional learning, including attending professional development activities throughout the year.
  • Meet relevant policies and legislative requirements in relation to student health information privacy.
  • Any other reasonable responsibilities, as required by the Principal.
