POSITION OVERVIEW

Kangaroos Alive is seeking a passionate and skilled campaigner to help manage our domestic and global program to raise awareness of the issues surrounding the conservation and protection of kangaroos. A dynamic dedicated individual who is passionate about wildlife protection, our Campaign Manager will have experience working on public facing advocacy campaigns, is a self-starter, and can think strategically to achieve campaign objectives.

Working autonomously and in partnership with others, this role will work to influence and inspire decision makers, individuals, communities, organisations and institutions to secure major gains towards the advancement of the campaign goal. This goal will be achieved through research, public and media outreach, coalition building, legislative outreach, and education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication and Campaign Strategy:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Kangaroos Alive work and strategy
  • Develop and coordinate kangaroo campaign in conjunction with key advisors, NGO partners and experts
  • Implement campaign strategies at the state, national and international levels

Strong Communication Skills:

  • Comfortable and confident speaking with media, government and industry representatives and the broader community
  • Sound written communication in both creative and technical writing

Research and Analysis:

  • Collect relevant kangaroo management documents, kill data, population survey data, and kangaroo studies from the federal government, state governments, and from the scientific literature 
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of local, state and national legislative frameworks 
  • Research and write submissions to various legislative processes 
  • Assist with all Kangaroos Alive programs if required

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Educate the public about kangaroos and the challenges they face in Australia
  • Work at the Interface with population biologists to engage in relevant surveys and modelling exercises to help develop credible kangaroo population estimates nationally and in each Australian state
  • Work closely with other campaigners in the animal protection sector globally 

Skills:

  • Experience in project or campaign management
  • Basic photo and video editing
  • A sound working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and CRM systems

Time Management:

  • Ability to produce high quality work with strict deadlines with minimal supervision 
  • Highly organised, reliable, efficient & detail oriented with excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy
