About Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ)
KJ is an innovative and award-winning Martu organisation that operates a variety of land management, cultural and social programs in the remote communities in the Pilbara, WA.
We are guided by Martu elders, who are some of the last Pujiman (desert-born people) in Australia with deep cultural and ecological knowledge. Martu are the traditional owners of a large tract of country spanning across three deserts and home to wild populations of some of Australia’s iconic fauna species.

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Communications Officer to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in enhancing our engagement with the Martu communities and broader public through compelling storytelling and strategic communication initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute communication strategies in collaboration with our Executive Director – External Affairs.
- Produce engaging and informative content across various platforms including press releases, newsletters, website articles, annual reports, and social media posts.
- Design and create visual materials such as infographics and icons to support communication efforts.
- Work with filmmakers on developing promotional materials that align with KJ’s values and goals.
- Ensure consistency in our messaging and adherence to our brand across all channels.
- Analyse effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust plans based on insights.

Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
- Proven experience in a communications role, ideally within a non-profit or community-oriented organisation.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to produce clear, persuasive, and grammatically correct content.
- Experience managing social media platforms and content creation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a cross-cultural, interdisciplinary environment.
- Respect for Indigenous cultures and knowledge, with previous experience working with Aboriginal communities highly regarded.
