The program

The Katungul Women’s Healing Centre (KWHC) is a newly established centre in Bega that responds to the needs of Aboriginal women and their children who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, domestic and family violence and homelessness. We provide a therapeutic and holistic response that supports women on a healing journey to holistically address their safety, accommodation, health, wellbeing, cultural and other needs.

The position

The newly developed Team Leader position at KWHC provides oversight of service delivery including systems, processes, facility, finances, reporting and staffing. The role will guide the development of KWHC and ensure the program is delivered in accordance with the program model and contractual obligations. In recognition of the gendered nature of domestic and family violence, Katungul enforces an all-female staffing policy at KWHC which maximises women’s safety within the centre. Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under s.31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Key responsibilities

  • Inspire and nurture a positive and stimulating inclusive environment, where staff and volunteers share Katungal’s mission and values, feel valued for their contribution and are committed to working together to deliver high quality services
  • Manage, administer and monitor program operations including budgets and undertake reporting requirements
  • Develop partnerships and collaborative relationships with external stakeholders and networks
  • Coordinate service evaluation and planning to identify service delivery gaps and recommend improvements
  • Ensure work is undertaken in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act, Risk Management framework and organisational operating policy and procedures

What a typical week may look like

  • Assist women and children into and within the facility
  • Assist staff with intake and referrals
  • Oversee staff caseloads and provide case management
  • Mentor and role model appropriate positive behaviours
  • Provide emotional and practical supports to clients and staff
  • Prepare and facilitate the weekly/fortnightly team meetings
  • Oversee accuracy of data management system
  • Complete any due reports using a template
  • Check and ensure compliance of centre’s safety
  • Meet with local community, services and participate in other networking events
  • Guide and participate in cultural activities
  • Arrange team building events
  • Draft and participate in an on-call roster
  • Arrange suitable training for the team (external or internal)
  • Onboard any new staff or volunteers
  • Report to your supervisor and/or participate in internal/external supervision
  • And many more interesting and varied activities

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Qualifications are prioritised by:
    • Graduate certificate in human services or similar welfare training
    • Degree Social Work / Welfare or similar
    • Diploma leadership and management with 2 years in a similar role
    • Significant experience working with survivors of domestic and family violence or similar role
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence
  • Leadership and supervisory experience with a proven ability to lead teams to achieve service goals and tasks
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to improve client experience and service outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Ability to maintain and support trauma-informed work practices
  • Ability to plan, implement and review services
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the use of information and communication technology including Microsoft word, email and internet applications and databases to manage client records

  • Current driver’s licence (you may be required to provide evidence of your driving record)
  • As a child safe organisation, employment at Katungul is subject to a satisfactory National Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • It is an essential requirement of the role that successful applicants are fully vaccinated against COVID 19. You will be required to provide evidence of your vaccination status during the recruitment process
