THE ROLE

At Kyabra, our Intake and Assessment team is responsible for providing an initial point of contact in relation to community members who present to the organisation for assistance. The Intake and Assessment Worker will work within this team and, in conjunction with the Manager and other team members, be primarily responsible for:

  • Initial needs identification and assessment for community members who contact the organisation for assistance.
  • The provision of relevant information and appropriate referral pathways (either internally or externally), including brief intervention work if/when required.
  • Providing initial support and advocacy to community members, particularly in the housing and homelessness support area as well as Kyabra’ community finance programs.

The position will be responsible for incoming initial phone-based assessments as well as some centre-based and/or outreach work. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will be required to work across Kyabra’s Runcorn and Richlands sites.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in Social Work/Human Services or similar.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of social justice, as well as a demonstrated capacity to work from a strengths-based approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience working in, intake and assessment in the community service sector, including the use of client management systems (e.g. SRS, QHIP). This may include experience in one or more of the following areas: housing and homelessness, community finance, foster care, disability and mental health.
  • Cultural competency, including a demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, working with people from CALD backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues/barriers facing community members, including ways to resolve or improve these issues and empower participants.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, including an ability to work autonomously or as part of a team, and adapt to various circumstances as necessary to support each participant.
  • Valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or eligibility to attain one as well as a willingness to partake in any other required police/history checks as required by the organisation.
