THE ROLE

We are seeking reliable, resourceful and dedicated Support Workers to assist NDIS participants by providing the support they need to succeed in all aspects of daily living.

Kyabra’s Support Workers are expected to work directly with NDIS participants (on an individual basis) in their home(s) and in the community, completing duties which may include:

  • Personal care,
  • Household chores,
  • Meal preparation,
  • Medication management,
  • Facilitating social inclusion and community engagement opportunities,
  • Linking participants to activities or services of their choice, and
  • Helping participants with all aspects of their lives so that they can live as independently as possible (as per their NDIS plan).

Hours of Work

The successful candidate is expected to have availability to work a variety of shifts (minimum 2 hours per shift) for a minimum of 25-30 hours per week across mornings, evenings and weekends as required to support participants.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or eligibility to attain one.
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or eligibility to attain one.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate of completion.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates (from an Australian registered training organisation).
  • Current Driver’s Licence and access to a suitable, roadworthy vehicle for participant transport (mileage allowance provided).
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues/barriers facing people who live with a disability, including ways to resolve or improve these issues and empower participants.
  • Cultural competency, including a demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, working with people from CALD backgrounds.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to upholding, the principles of social justice, NDIS Practice Standards and Kyabra’s Code of Conduct, including our organisational policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, including an ability to work autonomously and adapt to various circumstances as necessary to support each participant.
  • A willingness to undergo additional mandatory training as required (with the support of Kyabra).

DESIRABLE

  • Certificate III in Individual Support/Disability Support (or equivalent) or relevant experience.
  • Experience working with children and young people, and/or experience working with people with disabilities (including those with psychological disabilities) in a range of environments.
  • Up-to-date COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations (may be required for working with some participants).
  • Certificate(s) of completion in Mental Health First Aid, Epilepsy Essentials, Medication Management, Restrictive Practice or other relevant training from an Australian-accredited training provider.
