Kensington Community High School (KCHS) is seeking a qualified psychologist to work with staff to support students and families and ensure optimal outcomes. The role encompasses psychological intervention, including consultation, assessment and observation, working with staff on a range of student issues and development of wellbeing programs, developing professional development for staff and families as required.

KCHS is a special-purpose setting designed for the inclusion of young people who have experienced difficulty in their previous educational settings. The school specialises in providing significant learning and wellbeing supports for the needs of these students. Many of the young people who choose to enrol at our school have not experienced learning success, or a sense of connectedness, to mainstream schools for a range of reasons.

The school's ethos is centred on five key values: Community, Achievement, Respect, Effort and Safety (CARES). Working collaboratively, staff and students have developed specific expectations for each value that are the basis of teaching and learning, with participation in and around the wider community.

Promote and enable the KCHS Strategic Plan

  • Provide students with a Child-Safe environment
  • Be familiar with and comply with the School's Child-Safe Policy and Code of Conduct, and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety.
  • Work collaboratively and foster strong relationships with all stakeholders including the Specialist Wellbeing Services Team, Community Executive Team, Academic and Professional Staff and local services, agencies and private providers
  • Oversee and provide consultation advice to staff and families regarding student wellbeing, learning, developmental, and behavioural issues
  • Prepare reports for the relevant stakeholders including
  • Psycho-educational reports
  • DIP application reports
  • NDIS access forms
  • DI Profiles
  • Special Exam Arrangements applications
  • Maintain student client records and adopt appropriate data collection practices. As required by all relevant regulatory body, legislative and School compliance requirements.

Required selection criteria:

  • SC1 Provide appropriate qualifications and experience relating directly to the position.
  • SC2 Experience in the development and implementation of evidence-based programs, procedures and policies that foster resilience in children and young people and address their social, emotional and educational needs.
  • SC3 Capacity to work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary professional team and contribute significantly to the achievements of the team.
  • SC4 Ability to design, deliver or broker professional learning, preferably for teachers and other relevant professionals, in student engagement and wellbeing.
  • SC5 Well-developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills
  • SC6 Relevant qualifications and/or experience in psychology with current registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (Victoria).
