About the Role:
- Kensington Public School OOSH is seeking a permanent part-time Assistant Director
- (Permanent part-time) minimum 20 hours per week
- In this role, you will need to utilise your strong organisational, programming and initiative skills to inspire an experienced team of Educators. This is an excellent opportunity for an OOSH Assistant Director or experienced Educator to step up to a leadership role! In this role, you will work collaboratively with the Centre's Director and Educational Leader in the leadership and development of the Centre.

Essential Qualifications/Experience:
- Minimum Certificate IV in Out of School Hours care or equivalent
- At least 3 years' experience in working with children aged 5-12 years in an OSHC environment.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Current First Aid Certificate as well as management of anaphylaxis and Asthma Certificates or willingness to obtain prior to commencement of employment
- Accredited Child Protection Certificate
Essential Skills:
- Confidence coordinating and leading a team of educators through an OSHC session
- Excellent critical reflection and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Clear and respectful skills of communication and collaboration.
- Ability to communicate with and build high quality relationships with children, parents, staff and the community, and an empathetic approach to working with children.
- Knowledge of the National Quality Framework 'My Time Our Place and the National Regulations.
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate a program of activity for primary school aged children and evidence of such.
- Current knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Administration skills including computer literacy.
Highly Desirable:
- Bachelor of Primary Education or Certificate IV/Diploma in children's Services/Diploma in OSHC or currently working towards the same
- Experience working in an OSHC environment in a management/supervisor role.
- Experience with implementation of the NQF.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the onboarding, mentoring, and professional development of new and existing staff members.
- Facilitate clear communication between staff and management, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Provide support to the Director/Nominated Supervisor to ensure educators and staff have a working knowledge of the National Quality Framework and meet these guidelines in their work practices
- In collaboration with the Director/Nominated Supervisor, help others to understand their obligations to comply with legislation, rules, policies and procedures relating to the operation of the OSHC service
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Code of Ethics (Early Childhood Australia Inc.) and ensure educators and staff act within these guidelines
- Assist to ensure educators and staff adhere to our child safe policies including the Child Safe Environment Policy and the Child Protection Policy at all times and take all reasonable steps to protect children from abuse and harm
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills in education and management to effectively manage a large team
- Contribute positively and effectively to the team environment within the organisation to ensure smooth operation of the OSHC service
- Promote a healthy team environment and develop positive channels of communication and assist the Director/Nominated Supervisor to foster a cohesive team environment where educators/ staff feel supported and valued
- Assist the Director/Nominated Supervisor to provide feedback to educators and staff regarding their conduct and work practices whilst creating a supportive workplace environment
- Assist the Director/Nominated Supervisor to conduct regular staff appraisals and support the development of plans which will extend educators and staff abilities and practices
- In collaboration with the Director/Nominated Supervisor monitor and mentor the Educational Leader at each service to facilitate the successful planning, implementation and evaluation of a program for the service that is reflective of the approved learning framework; My Time Our Place (MTOP)
- Ensure practices meet children’s individual needs (including the needs of children with a disability) and enhance their physical, emotional, cognitive, social and cultural development
- Be proactive in ensuring currency in best school aged care practice for before and after school care and vacation care
- Ensure all programs reflect inclusive practices, celebrating diversity and catering to children’s individual needs.
- Initiate and facilitate with the development, implementation and review of a service philosophy
- Assist in the development, implementation and update of the Quality Improvement Plan for the service in collaboration with the OSHC Coordinator / Nominated Supervisor and Educational Leader
- Promote child wellbeing and prevent harm to children and young people by adopting and adhering to the Child Safe Standards
- Ensure compliance with child protection policies as a Mandatory Reporter and mentor staff to uphold child safety standards.
- Ensure policies and procedures are adhered to ensure the children are safe and adequately supervised at all times
- Promote positive, comforting and nurturing relationships with children
- Promote the cultural safety, participation and empowerment of culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander children to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights
- Promote the safety, participation and empowerment of children with a disability
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating appropriate behaviour and language; and
- Communicate with children in an open, honest manner and ensure that the child’s perspective is regarded as unique and special
- Ensure children are respected and their rights are being met according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child -CRC
- Collaborative partnerships with families and communities - key tasks:
- Promote clear communication between the management team and educators, staff and families
- Maintain a positive working relationship with the School Principal, Deputy Principal, General Assistant and other school staff
- Foster open communication and collaborative relationships with school leadership and staff.
- In collaboration with the Director/Nominated Supervisor, lead and support educators and staff to create a safe, supportive and informative environment for families
- Be courteous and helpful to the families in the OSHC service, and ensure all educators and staff are implementing these practices
- In conjunction with the Director/Nominated Supervisor encourage educators and staff to look for opportunities within each service where a family may become involved e.g., multi-cultural events, craft activities, fund-raising and parent committees
- provide assistance to the Director/Nominated Supervisor to promote, support and guide educators/ staff to encourage families to participate in service decision-making and experiences
- Comply with, maintain and review all service policies and procedures in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Law and National Regulations
- Maintain a sound and current understanding of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and Family Assistance Law
- Strive to achieve the service’s goals (as outlined in the Policy Manual) and ensure the service’s statement of philosophy is always reflected in daily practice
- Any other duties within the scope of the role of Assistant Director, under the direction of the Director/Approved Provider
