About the Role:

  • Kensington Public School OOSH is seeking a permanent part-time or full time Assistant Director
  • (Permanent part-time/full time) 30-38 hours per week
  • Use your strong organisational, programming, and leadership skills to inspire a dedicated team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Educator or OOSH Assistant Director to step into a leadership role, working closely with the Centre Director and Educational Leader.

We are a not-for-profit OOSH centre run by a team of volunteer parents (PMC).

Essential Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Out of School Hours care or equivalent
  • At least 3 years' experience in working with children aged 5-12 years in an OSHC environment.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate as well as management of anaphylaxis and Asthma Certificates or willingness to obtain prior to commencement of employment
  • Accredited Child Protection Certificate

Essential Skills:

  • Confidence coordinating and leading a team of educators through an OSHC session
  • Excellent critical reflection and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Clear and respectful skills of communication and collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate with and build high quality relationships with children, parents, staff and the community, and an empathetic approach to working with children.
  • Knowledge of the National Quality Framework 'My Time Our Place and the National Regulations.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate a program of activity for primary school aged children and evidence of such.
  • Current knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Administration skills including computer literacy.

Highly Desirable:

  • Bachelor of Primary Education or Certificate IV/Diploma in children's Services/Diploma in OSHC or currently working towards the same
  • Experience working in an OSHC environment in a management/supervisor role.
  • Experience with implementation of the NQF.

Key Responsibilities:

Educational Program & Practice

  • Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of engaging programs aligned with My Time, Our Place (MTOP).
  • Mentor and guide educators in delivering inclusive and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Maintain and review children’s records, observations, and assessments.

Children’s Health & Safety

  • Ensure a child-safe environment, adhering to Child Protection legislation and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee medication records, health documentation, and first aid compliance.
  • Implement WHS policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment.

Physical Environment

  • Assist in maintaining a safe, stimulating, and well-resourced learning space.
  • Monitor and address any health and safety risks.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and compliance with national safety standards.

Staffing & Leadership

  • Mentor and support staff, fostering a positive, professional team culture.
  • Ensure compliance with educator qualifications, ratios, and performance standards.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development initiatives.

Relationships with Children & Families

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with children, fostering their confidence and wellbeing.
  • Promote inclusivity and cultural safety for diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
  • Strengthen partnerships with families, school staff, and community organisations.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure service policies, procedures, and National Quality Framework (NQF) requirements are met.
  • Assist with financial management, reporting, and government compliance (e.g., CCS, funding applications).
  • Support service evaluations, continuous improvement, and regulatory reporting.

Operational Tasks

  • Respond to emails and administrative tasks.
  • Conduct risk assessments, incident reviews, and compliance checks.
  • Lead daily team briefings and mentor staff on best practices.
