Program Officer - Empowering Indigenous Communities in WA

K Farmer Dutjahn Foundation

K Farmer Dutjahn Foundation is a small but mighty organisation that has made enormous progress in supporting Indigenous self-determination and regenerative sandalwood development under Aboriginal Management. An exciting new opportunity has just been created for a Program Officer to support our quest to work alongside Traditional Owners, Custodians and communities on sandalwood lands in WA in order for them to achieve their goals.

As Program Officer, you will be instrumental in shaping KFDF’s strategic direction, systems, and long-term growth. We champion and fund activities to support Aboriginal people on sandalwood land. As part of this you will help design, implement, and evaluate projects focused on cultural heritage preservation, community wellbeing, and sustainable resource management.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will work closely with industry partners, state government entities, and Indigenous Land Management groups. This involves collaborating closely with Traditional Owners, community members, partners, and the CEO to design impactful programs aligned with KFDF's strategic goals. Your expertise in project planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation will be crucial to ensuring successful implementation and demonstrating program impact.

We are keen to hear from you if you have a strong understanding of:

  • Social impact principles,
  • Sustainable development, and
  • Place-based community development - ideally with a deep understanding of Indigenous self-determination.

Demonstrated success in designing and managing projects, along with the ability to thrive in a dynamic start-up environment, is essential. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and budget management skills are also must. Experience working in remote Indigenous communities in Australia is highly desirable along with qualifications in Social Impact, Economic, Community Development, or International Development.

Program and project management experience is essential however formal accreditations in these areas are not required. More important is a passion for social justice and the ability to nurture relationships with a complex array of stakeholders.

KFDF offers flexible work arrangements, including working from home with regular travel to remote communities, particularly Wiluna.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing organisation and make a tangible difference in the lives of Aboriginal communities. If you are a driven and passionate individual seeking a rewarding career, we encourage you to apply.
