Position Context

Kempsey Families Inc. (KF Inc.) is a not- for- profit organisation providing a range of specialist services for women, children, young people, families/caregivers, and men.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Community Services or related field or equivalent experience 
  • Experience in direct work with women and children impacted by domestic and family violence
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, child protection and requirements for ethical practice
  • Experience and commitment to working from a woman-centred, holistic, and trauma informed, strengths-based approach
  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management practice
  • Demonstrated liaison, advocacy, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated time management and planning skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Capacity to develop a working relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and families from Cultural and Linguistically Diverse background
  • Competent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competent administrative and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills in word processing and database entry
  • Current Working with Children Check and ability to pass National Police Check
  • Current NSW Drivers’ Licence
  • Current Covid 19 Vaccination Certification or valid medical exemption.

Desirable Criteria

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Capacity to be flexible, adaptive, and incorporate change in a work environment that is characterised by change
  • Experience in facilitating group work
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the service sector across the Mid North Coast 

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver trauma informed case management for clients with complex needs
  • Develop and maintain networks and partnerships with key stakeholders and deliver community education activities
  • Assist with administrative requirements of the project in consultation with SHLV team
  • Alignment with the core philosophy of the organisation, feminism, and gendered analysis of domestic violence 

Case Management

  • Facilitate a service model to support women (and their children) to safely remain in their home or home of their choice following domestic or family violence
  • Assess referrals and complete client intake assessments within a week of receiving referral. Ensure risk assessments are performed for each client and reviewed during transition points during the support period.
  • Work with clients in a trauma informed framework
  • Work with clients in a case management framework. Ensure case plans are developed, monitored, and updated for each client daily.
  • Implement safety planning and strategies including provision of personal and safety devices.
  • Ensure any Child Protection concerns, or disclosures are reported as soon as possible (and where appropriate with the mothers/care-givers participation), record and document to CIMS.
  • Promote independence, assertiveness, and self – determination for clients. Encourage creative problem solving and conflict resolutions skills at every opportunity
  • Foster parent effectiveness skills and provide support to children according to project/service procedures
  • Refer clients to relevant and appropriate services, including financial, housing, legal, health and children services.  Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other service providers to improve outcomes for clients and advocate on behalf of clients as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain referral pathways and protocols

Community Development

  • Develop, facilitate, and maintain networks (formal or informal partnership agreements) with key government and non-government organisations including:
    • NSW Police in Local Area Command
    • Local Courts
    • Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service
    • Housing NSW
    • Temporary and Crisis Accommodation providers
    • Local Health and support services
    • Department of Communities and Justice
    • Department of Education
    • Other supports as identified
  • Deliver community education and engagement activities that support pathways for clients with complex needs and raise awareness of the impact of domestic and or family violence in the community
  • Identify partnership opportunities and facilitate collaborative and innovative partnerships with other sector stakeholders to maximise outcomes for women and children
  • Collaborate with sector stakeholders to create positive change for women and children
  • Represent the program/service at relevant meetings, forums and seminars as requested by the Executive Officer or SHLV Coordinator 
  • Liaison with relevant agencies and services to promote the role and to ensure ongoing referral linkages and pathways are strengthened particularly with Department of Communities and Justice, Health, Education and DFV sector and across the LGA
  • Develop and maintain networks and partnerships with key stakeholders and deliver community education activities
  • Alignment with the core philosophy of the organisation and gendered analysis of domestic violence 
  • Maintain regular supervision and support with the SHLV Coordinator or Executive Officer

Office Administration

  • Utilise data and record keeping efficiently, accurately and in a timely manner in consultation with SHLV Coordinator; example: client notes entered upon every contact/daily, referrals entered on receipt.
  • Utilise expenditure processes in accordance with organisational financial policies. 
  • Submit accounts and other financial applications for payment to the Finance Manager in a timely and correct manner in consultation with SHLV Coordinator 

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain and understanding of relevant legislation, funding guidelines and policies, including those related to domestic and family violence, child protection and privacy. Maintain knowledge with current policies, guidelines, research, and other resources as they relate to the project/service
  • Comply and stay up to date with organisational policies and procedures
  • Prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Monitor and actively manage work and personal stress to promote personal well- being within the workplace 
  • Proactively engage in supervision (internal and external) and performance appraisal process
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff development activities
  • Produce reports and documents as directed
  • Other duties as directed and consistent with the position, as required by the SHLV Coordinator orExecutive Officer
  • Maintain office and undertake housekeeping duties such as bin roster and keeping kitchen clean and tidy.
