MS Research Australia is the largest national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to funding, coordinating, educating and advocating for multiple sclerosis research as part of the worldwide effort to solve MS. Its goal is to accelerate research: into the cause, better treatments and prevention, with the aim of ultimately finding a cure. There is a small team of dedicated individuals relied upon for all aspects of the operations. Therefore overheads are low ensuring more of the fundraised dollar is directed straight to the best MS research.
MS Research Australia’s international fundraising campaign Kiss Goodbye to MS, is the first truly global MS fundraising initiative and is currently implemented in 13 countries around the world. Kiss Goodbye to MS is a year round Do-it-Yourself (DIY) style community fundraising activation, providing supporters with an opportunity to raise funds to support MS research via the method of their choosing.
MS is the most common acquired neurological disease in the world with more than 2.3 million people affected globally. Australia has a comparatively high incidence of MS and three out of four people affected are women. The average age of diagnosis is between the ages of 20 to 40. MS causes the degradation of the myelin sheath which insulates and protects nerve material around the brain and spinal cord. This often leads to significant disability, chronic and unrelenting pain and other changes such as blindness, fatigue and memory loss. The cause of MS is unknown.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the energetic team at MS Research Australia, where you will be responsible for assisting across all aspects of the community fundraising campaign, including digital marketing, communications, social media, event management, fundraiser coaching, merchandise and administration. Working closely with the Community Fundraising Coordinator, you will gain firsthand experience of coordinating a $2.5 million fundraising campaign.
In 2019, The May 50K was launched in Australia under the Kiss Goodbye to MS umbrella. It is a virtual peer to peer mass participation community fundraising campaign, where supporters are encouraged to run or walk 50km over the month of May whilst raising life-changing funds to support MS research. In its inaugural year, The May 50K registered over 9,200 supporters and raised more than $2 million - breaking organisational records and outperforming many industry benchmarks.
