In contributing to RRKAC’s overarching vision and purpose, the role of the Senior Survey Co-ordinator strengthens and supports RRKAC’s heritage protection mechanisms and ensure equitable and transparent access to land management and heritage protection for all RRK members. The role will coordinate surveys in accordance with industry best practice and associated native title and heritage agreements and relevant legislation.
They will oversee the development and efficient management of a roster of RRKAC people to work on heritage surveys and participate in land management activities and ensure survey workflows are tracked and documented. In addition to developing and maintaining a casual pool of RRK members delivering a wide range of land management, heritage, technical and administrative work.
The position will organise and log information and ensure that technical reports are reviewed in a consistent and timely manner. The role will be responsible for data management and archiving, maintaining detailed records on behalf of the Country and Culture team.
Ideally, the role will help organise training and events on behalf of Country and Culture. They will work closely with other parts of the organisation to bring consistency to data management and workflows.
About the team
The Country and Culture team leads development and implementation of plans and programs to manage RRKAC lands and waters, to protect and enhance their environmental values, natural processes, character, scenic value, biological diversity, and ecosystem integrity; to support their social and cultural values; and to improve their resilience to threats, including response to resource developers, pastoralists, and climate change.
As part of the team, you will contribute to RRKAC’s efforts towards a position where the rules that apply to RRK Country and bind RRK People and visitors under WA legal and regulatory systems reflect the RRK People’s Vision, Strategic Plan and Healthy Country Plan.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for coordinating workflows and tracking systems that support good management of data and reports relating to RRK cultural heritage, lands, and waters.
- Develop and maintain Cultural Consultant Register, ensuring fair and equitable access to survey and monitoring work for RRK People.
- Establish systematic management of surveys and reporting via electronic workflows and The Keeping Place.
- Lead administrative best practice and take responsibility for overseeing all administration within the Country and Culture team.
- Facilitate training for RRK members and Country and Culture staff – maintain training logs.
- Liaise with government, mining proponents and other stakeholders as required.
- Assist with the design, preparation and implementation of educational programs and interpretive materials on the protection and management of lands and waters to mentor and build capacity among RRK members.
- Perform any other duties, tasks or projects the employer may assign, having regard to the incumbent’s skills, training and experience and ensure all actions comply with RRKAC policies and Code of Conduct, procedures and practices.
- Create a culture of high performance and service delivery by clearly communicating and modelling performance standards.
- Foster a culture of member respect, support and service throughout the RRKAC office.
- Champion Traditional Owner inclusion and capability building, this may include providing training.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Awareness of the issues affecting Aboriginal people, particularly in the Pilbara context, and experience working with Indigenous people.
- Knowledge of the framework under which heritage and research work takes place, with reference to legislation, such as Native Title Act, Aboriginal Heritage Act, Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
- Working knowledge of GIS software applications and geospatial databases, or willingness to learn
- High-level problem-solving skills / analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and/or develop simple, fit for purpose systems.
- Exceptional administrative skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Work well under pressure and maintain a consistent approach in challenging situations with high ethical standards and integrity.
- Current National Police Check (or ability to obtain), Valid Open ‘C’ Class licence,
- Ability to complete successful pre-employment medical including Drug & Alcohol test.
- High proficiency in computer software, particularly the MS 365 suite.
