About us

Knowledge Society is a purpose-driven business that turns knowledge into impact. We design and deliver practice change programs for educators and policymakers.

We help school systems achieve gains in student learning by creating supportive professional learning programs that help teachers and leaders change their practice in classrooms.

All of our programs are informed by the science of learning and the science of reading for use in educational settings from early learning to higher education.

The role

We are seeking applications from experienced individuals to join our program coaching team as Instructional Coaches for classroom behaviour, high impact teaching, literacy, numeracy and/or curriculum coaching assignments. Our Instructional Coaches work alongside our Training and Coaching Lead and our faculty of expert trainers to provide the in-school dimension of our professional learning and classroom practice change programs, including classroom demonstrations and observations, coaching and feedback for teachers and leaders.

All Instructional Coaches require knowledge of the science of learning and classroom teaching experience across P-6 and/or 7-12 that would enable confident demonstration of evidence-based teaching practices, strategies and routines. Demonstrated experience in applying coaching models that deliver high impact in classrooms, and specific domain knowledge in classroom behaviour, explicit instruction, literacy instruction and intervention, numeracy instruction, and/or knowledge rich curriculum are also essential to the role.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Support the high fidelity implementation of the routines, strategies, skills and practices relevant to our school improvement programs.
  • Attend school visits to deliver model lessons in the classroom.
  • Observe classroom instruction for the purpose of providing teachers with coaching and direct feedback on the agreed classroom practice change initiatives.
  • Provide written feedback to individual teachers and/or school leadership teams
  • Provide instruction and mentoring to school leaders to build their internal school coaching capability .
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate professional learning workshops, as required.

AbOUT you

To be successful in this role you will:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) or equivalent qualifications in education or teaching, with eligibility to teach in the Australian schools sector.
  • At least two (2) years working in an instructional leadership role which involved the provision of coaching and feedback to help teachers implement evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality teaching practices underpinned by the science of learning, cognitive load theory, the science of reading, and principles of high impact (explicit) instruction etc.
  • Relevant training and demonstrated experience in literacy instruction, numeracy instruction and/or an understanding of the research and rationale underpinning knowledge rich curriculum
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strategies for clear and succinct conversations and the ability to deliver model lessons and present professional learning workshops
  • Willingness to travel intra and interstate to deliver training and coaching to schools

We are interested in hearing from candidates based in Perth, Melbourne or Sydney to assist with the delivery of our school improvement programs across Australia.

Coaches will initially be engaged on a casual basis with a view to that developing into more permanent positions in the future. The role will therefore suit someone who is already working in the schools sector and wanting to supplement their existing role with a new challenge, or someone who is looking to work flexibly in the immediate term.
